Is there any reason why one is better than the other, hair-wise?

Which one is "best" for your hair? What are their properties regarding hair?

I have no idea about relating to hair, but I love eating mangos and I recently switched to a shea and cocoa butter lotion and it has worked the best on my super dry hands. :D
(Sorry for the not helpful post. ;D)

I use a mix of unrefined shea and cocoa butter (equal parts) on my skin and it's amazing. I use conditioners that are made with this same kind of shea butter sometimes. It works great. Cocoa butter is firmer (higher melting point) but I imagine it would be good for your hair anyway. I rub my hands through my hair after applying that stuff to my skin. I've never used mango butter. I think they're all pretty good for you as they are quite rich. Some people are not fond of the scent of unrefined shea butter. Cocoa butter has a chocolatey scent that most people like but may be too strong. I've never had any mango butter to smell, so I couldn't say much about it other than that it seems like it would be quite nice. It's harder to find. Try it. It's nice to get organic unrefined oils and butters because the refining process can rob you of the exact properties you bought it for.

I use Unrefined Shea Butter in my mixes for hair, body and face and love it. specially mixed with Almond Oil. My skin in winter did not get dry at all, it helped with chafing and it is great for moisturizing my hair. not too greasy and mixed with Vanilla scented oil not bad smell, actually very nice.

I cannot give comments on Mango butter for i have not used it and i only used the Cocoa Butter sold by Palmer's. but Palmer's is not extremely good for hair.

I recomend you try and experiment, it is the only way to find out which butter is best for you and your hair.

I have only used cocoa and shea butters and they don't really do too much for my hair. They are very hard for me to apply to wet/damp hair unless mixed with other oils and when I tried that there was no difference between how my hair behaved with a mix or using just the oils. Shea butter does help to smooth down my frizzy canopy however I can only apply it to dry hair for this purpose and being that oils and butters lock out moisture from my hair I try to avoid doing this.

I know this is not hair related but I use shea and cocoa butter in my deodorant recipe and they work great for that. :)

Hi, I was wondering if anybody has recipes for shea and mango butters. I got my package with my butters today but am not really sure what to do with them except to use them 'stand-alone'.

I use mango butter for my legs after shaving. Really, there doesn't seem to be much difference between that and the creamy (read: less clay-like) versions of shea or cocoa butter. I think the main difference is that it has added mango scent (due to the oils from the kernels. yummy.) I use all three on my hair - it really depends which one I just used, but they all seem to work basically the same.

that said, you can buy a mango/shea/cocoa butter combination for hair, I think it's by HumiNature. Smells pretty good, I just haven't picked any up yet :)

Mango butter is harder like cocoa butter and is great in things like lip balms and lotion bars. My basic recipe for lotion bars is:

1 part Beeswax
1 part hard oil (oil that is solid at room temperature so your mango or shea or a combo would fit here)
1 part soft oil (liquid at room temperature)

For my hair mango and shea are great. Coco butter not so much.

Thanks :) I will try making that as soon as my workload gets a little less! Does coconut oil count as a soft oil? Or do you mean something like olive oil? And I have an 'all natural' beezwax candle, can I use that for the wax because I do not have blocks or anything? I never lit it because I was saving it for this purpose...

I'd imagine that coconut oil is a hard oil, and olive is soft.
