Welcome to LHC!

I'm still learning about my hair and how to take care of it, so we are kindof in the same boat, but here is my routine:

At the moment my routine is a water only rinse once a week (no shampoo or conditioner), let my hair dry a bit until it is only damp, then put some diluted leave in conditioner (cone and sulfate free). I also use 3 or 4 drops of extra virgin olive oil in my hair every day. When I feel my hair getting greasy, or my scalp starts getting too much buildup, then I will use diluted Bert's Bees Pomegranate shampoo and conditioner( this is only about 2 months to 3 months), both of which are cone and sulfate free. I also brush every day with a bristle Boar Brush.

So no, I don't use banana shampoo and conditioner...I really am not a big fan of any type of banana smell or taste >.<

I hope this helped some. And again, welcome to LHC, good luck and happy growing.

Really, it depends on what you (and you hair :D ) like......

I am not familiar w/ the ingredients in that shampoo/ conditioner, but the first couple questions I would ask would be , does the shampoo have sulfates and does the conditioner have cones? Neither are 'bad', but those seem to be the main two products people either love or hate.

Start a little at a time, you don't have to change everything at once. Start w/ a gentle shampoo (sulfate free) or maybe not using cones and see what happens.... is your hair improved or not?

Also, some people are able to stretch washes, some people aren't, again, what you will learn on here is that everyones hair is different, and finding the routine that gives you the best hair you can have......

Good Luck!

Does this stuff still exist? I haven't seen it in ages. I used to like when I was a teenager in the 90's. Hmm, I may have to pick some up if it's back.

Edited to Add:

Oh my goodness, I just checked out the website, it is back, and so is Ice blue shampoo! That one was a favorite as well, nice and minty.

New Banana Conditioner:

INGREDIENTS:Water (Solvent/Diluent), Musa Paradisica (Banana) Fruit (Emollient/Lubricant), Cetearyl Alcohol (Emulsifier), Cetrimonium Chloride (Hair Conditioner), Phenoxyethanol (Preservative), Hydroxyethylcellulose (Stabiliser/Thickener), Lecithin (Stabiliser/Emulsifier), Propylene Glycol (Humectant), Panthenol (Skin/Hair Conditioning Agent), Fragrance (Fragrance), Benzyl Alcohol (Preservative), Sodium Hydroxide (pH Adjuster), Ascorbic Acid (Antioxidant), Yellow 5 (Colour), Yellow 6 (Colour).

The shampoo has SLES, which a lot of us use. It's a milder sulphate.
Wow, banana is actually third on the ingredient list for the shampoo, and second on the conditioner. Interesting. Both are cone free. Some people's hair likes cones, some don't.

They look worth a try.

Oh and Welcome!

I wonder if they are using banana fruit powder/extract. It sounds like it would work well for those who aren't protein sensitive....hmm.

BTW: If that's a pic of your hair (you avi) than your hair color is GORGEOUS. ;)

Have you checked the product reviews section? I have not used the banana shampoo because I stopped using shampoo. However, I do have the banana conditioner and I love the scent. It doesn't provide a tremedous amount of slip, but I mixed it with a hair lotion from Alaffia for a deep treatment and it was amazing. It even worked on my mom's poor color-treated hair. The two scents work well together also. If you're just looking for a mild shampoo and conditioner, I would get something else for that price. Trader Joe's has a great one (Nourish Spa) if there's one in your area and it's much cheaper. It smells great, though, and it wouldn't kill you to try something new. Maybe the shampoo would work well in conjunction with a heavier conditioner.

Sounds delicious.
Never tried it, but I just might go to the store and sniff it to see if it smells as good as it sounds!

I use the shampoo and conditioner at my boyfriend's place. It is a nice, dependable combination that always gives me hair that is clean, simply as that. Some combinations will leave me with hair that is just too light and fluffy, some will weigh it down. Some make my sebboreah worse. Some turn my hair into straw. Not this combination. The banana shampoo and conditioner manages to find a balance that is acceptable, which is why that is the shampoo and conditioner at my boyfriend's place. It is my no means the best combination on the market, but it is dependable since it at least never wrecks havoc upon my scalp or hair.

The thing is, I don't love this combination but keep looking for something else, something that will make my scalp flake free, my hair all soft and shiny, bring out my waves a bit better...that dream. In the meantime, there is the banana shampoo and conditioner that works as well - or even better in some respects - as anything else I've tried, if that makes sense?
