We had our first middle ages weekend (I do viking reenactment occasionally) this past weekend, and I was thrilled to find that three of the five other women are also hair nerds!

One in particular sounded like she could be a member here, but she's on a German forum (have to get the name again...) and knows all about everything we talk about here!

Not only that, but she was mad to have practice doing braids and really thrilled to get them too, and did both a crown braid and a fake crown braid (my version, upside down Dutch braids) on me. I got to see and play with her Flexi8s (which are TOTALLY different from how I imagined them), talk hair care, swap product tips, and commiserate over my BF's nonexistent hair care. :D

We are all going to get together on Wednesday for a potluck, (skin) henna, and more hair geekery, and I have to bring all my Ficcares so I can enable others. Then, when my parents come to visit from the US, I will have them bring hair toy orders with them.

It was SO COOL to have this encounter, and to be able to talk hair for several days straight!

pics coming when I upload them. ;)

I am a Viking Reenactor too :D, my group is about Swedish Traders from Birka.
www.midgard-vikingr.de.vu (http://www.midgard-vikingr.de.vu) (the timeframe is wrong..its supposed to be 900 a.d....whoever mixed that up)

There is many Long Hair Lovers in that scene..in fact thats were I first got encouragement to grow out my hair which I lsoon after did because I thought it would look so perfect and authentic all together ;)
I think I have seen your reenactment pics on flickr..Your gown looked very nice.
There is some german Hair Forums that pass around LHC Wisdom ;), I think german LHC members mostly brought it there and then parts of it is influenced by TLHS I would say.

I btw. have influenced many members of my medieval reenactment group to grow their hair according to LHC care, advise etc...:cheese:

Katze, this sounds like the most amazing weekend ever! How cool to find other LHCers (or ones who think like us) when you aren't even looking.

More vikings! Excellent:) My wife and I were full time professional vikings in Norway for four years when we were working on a viking village project out there.

Our house is overflowing with old norse regalia and it's still a great passion for us both.

nice! More Vikings! :D

I hope to get pics up today; the whole upload process is annoying to me but want to be able to share them with the hair nerds, among others.

That's cool.
I'd love to be an Reenactor, too. :)

I wonder which board she is a member of. Langhaarnetzwerk? Beautyjunkies? I don't know any other.

OK, here goes!

First ever crown braid on me, by M. the hair nerd. (Millilie, I don't know what board it was...it had a name that sounded like a person's name. I will find out tomorrow though and check it out).

My braids on her - she wanted two side braids that didn't look too "little girl" like. M has beautiful, shiny, heavy dark hair that has no taper at all - makes me envious.

Double herringbone on BF: I'm getting better at these!

As you can see from some of the fabric colors and background characters, this wasn't a super authentic Early Medieval Event, but rather "mimi" (Misch-Mittelalter = mixed medieval) with a lot of "gromi" (Grob-Mittelalter = includes all of the fantasy people, goths, roleplayers, or not-at-all authentic types) but was a really fun weekend with great weather, nice company, and lots of hair talk!

one last pic to capture the "mood" of the day - me and my friend Anja, who is dressed as an early medieval Slavic woman
