View Full Version : The Papyrus Braid

I was inspired by the Papyrus boats of the Med. Sea for this, and also I wanted to do something for those men out there with long hair which wasnt at all girly.

First put your hair into a pony tail. Then devide in to two even sections. Then taking from the BACK (long layers) of each section take off a smaller section, so you now have four sections, two thicker and two thinner. Hold one smaller and one thicker to their relative sides.

Taking the two right hand sections first, take the smaller section over the bigger, under the left bigger and hold in place to its left side (KEEP IT SEPERATE).

Now holding the section youv just worked firmly, take the left hand original small section over the bigger left section, under the right to hold at the far right of this section (KEEP IT SEPERATE). You have now done one round (so its very similar to the Fish Tail braid but you do not add any hair you keep working with the two original smaller sections).

Simply repeat the process down the braid:

http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q15/PurdyAngelicBear/th_018-1.jpg (http://s132.photobucket.com/albums/q15/PurdyAngelicBear/?action=view&current=018-1.jpg)

I did try to add to the smaller sections which did work but you may need to twist the two together as it may not hold. The smaller sections do come up short compared to the rest of the braid.

Equipment needed: Comb/Brush, two hair bands

Hair: Longer but not sure it matters, any type of hair I think.

Occasion worn: Any

Trouble Areas: Just like the Fish Braid its keeping each section seperate and knowing where to go next. I think if you can fish braid you'll find this relatively easy.

Variations: Each section could be braided but Iv not tried this out so Im not sure how it would come out.

Look out for my four strand braid, it has a system that can be reproduced for any number of strands and I find it easy (NB its a flat braid).

That looks pretty cool! My brain is fizzling (but it usually does that when I read hair instructions  )

I have to try it! I think it would work especially well for people with layers or angled sides - just make sure the thinner sections that do the wrapping are taken from the back/underside where the hair is longest, and hopefully all of the sections will end up the same length at the end.
