Is that the Arwen Helm Battle braid? It doesn't look like the Kristen Stewart Huntsman battle braid {either There were 2?} And aren't there battle braids from GOT? Either way it is gorgeous. Kudos to you

Thank you very much. The triple braid was actually pretty simple! Two French braids with hair left out from each rotation on the side closest to the center. Then those were made into a 4 strand chain braid!

That is really cute! Don't think I could deal with the weight though!
This was my hair yesterday. Haven't done dutch braids in years and have never done a lace braid before so this was different for me. Also haven't done more than one braid in years (I don't count the Hawser as 2) so my arms were killing me. All this explains the horrible looseness at the bottoms. It was bunned so it's ok. :)

Is a "lace" braid another name for the French braid technique, where you just add strands of hair to whatever kind of braid? I've never heard this term before LHC.

Lace is like a french braid but you only pick from one side. I explain it pretty clearly here:

Awesome. Thanks! I wasn't sure. How long is your hair unbraided? When I do any kind of battle braid, my hip-lengh hair comes to just below bsl.

The Naughty mess is BCL/TBL. And because he's a freak he only looses 2 inches when braided. There are pictures in my blog of my hair half braided and half down to show the crazyness.

So many lovely and intricate braids here, wow!
I'm so boring, only a simple braided bun today:
(pic)
A simple braided bun doesn't mean it's a boring braided bun. Even with that beautiful stick aside, your hair looks fantastic.
I love your hair stick :crush: were is it from?
Gumball gorgeous braided bun's hopefully my braided bun's will be as spectacular as yours some day.
Thank you! :D Some day? Yours can match that already.
That is gorgeous! I love the stick too! So not boring!
(pic)
Sorry for the dirty mirror. The noon sun didn't help either! LOL
Buns are the great savior when that looseness happens. I think you did a superb job with them, especially given how you went into the whole process for that style.
I attempted the spiral braid on little one to keep her hair off her face for her team figure skating rehearsal and guess what? I've got the whole team to braid for competition now! Obviously means I did a reasonable job, lol
(pic)

As usual Gumball... :thudpile:
I oiled my hair this morning, anticipating a wash tonight, so it seemed like a good time to try Torrin's "Jamie Leigh". It's sort of a cross between Madora's Flutterby and a braided Chinese bun - I like it! Stable and comfortable.
Thud. This is absolutely beautiful- it's at times like this I curse my thickness, as my big fat braid will only loop half way around and I just know if it was thinner, I could do a half decent approximation of this gorgeous style at my current length! Sigh, onward to longer...ness! Until then, I shall slobber over yours instead =D

Thanks Sylvestrix! I can just manage this one. The tie at the end of the braid barely makes it passed the bottom of the French braid to tuck underneath! Most people around me think my hair is SO THICK but compared to the people around here, I'm maybe on the thickish side of average. Sometimes I wish it was thicker, but there are styles that I still can't do, so I guess all in all, it's a nice compromise. ;)

Here's a braid I did. It's on my little sister's head (I could never do this on myself) and it was the product of my boredom. I often find myself playing with her hair while she's sitting at the computer on facebook or tumblr or Youtube. She loves the feeling of having her hair played with and I love the practice so it's a mutually beneficial arrangement!

This is a beautiful braid! It was really popular in Russia when I was there two years ago, and they call it "the little dragon" (for the way it snakes around the head, I guess). :)
Here's another crown braid from me (please disregard the knives in the background - I promise I'm a peaceable person!):

Did you do that crown braid on yourself? I'm in awe. So far, I've managed to create a rather impressive knot with my fingers woven right into it. I just can't seem to manage the turns in the braid when you have to re-adjust your hands.

I haven't been on here in a while... maybe a month or so. But I love seeing all the braids you come up with. Wow.
Kristen101, that is such a neat French braid in your last picture. Mine usually end up weird because I couldn't be bothered with fully detangling my hair, or there are bumps where the curls are trying to fight me. ^^ Dutch braids are easier for some reason.
I've been wearing my hair in a braided bun pretty much all the time. ^^ At boarding school I can't be bothered with spending too much time on a style -- two minutes, tops. But I'm on vacation right now, so today I looked at my hair and decided to do something.
Fishtail (I've always called them herringbone) braid on myself. I never wear this braid. It takes ages and doesn't show up well enough on my dark hair for it to be worth it in my opinion. I was so bored with it I didn't braid it out until the end and undid it as soon as I had taken this picture.
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2878&d=1361795979
Crown braid -- which I plan to wear for the rest of the day. Still not picture perfect, but I can get it done pretty quickly now compared to my first attempts, and I don't have trouble switching hands or braiding upward anymore. And I used less hair pins than usual. My only problem is smoothing the hair at the crown (bobby pins to the rescue!) and not having any parting.

I haven't yet decided whether I like the braid closer to my forehead or further back on my head.

Vrindi, thanks! :o
I did do it myself, and after a year of practice I'm finally getting the hair on the top of my head to lie flat. I originally learned from TorrinPaige's video, and as for the hand switch, I just don't do it. :)
I start in the back near one ear and braid around the front, and my sections are big enough that when I get past the other ear (at which point I can't braid without switching hands), I stop adding and just braid down the rest of the way, then wrap my tail up around the back and around the original loop. I don't know if that's comprehensible, but I hope it helps. :flower:
Darkcurls, pretty updos (I'm also kind of sad sometimes at how dark hair makes intricate braids blend in :()! Personally, I prefer higher crown braids (further back on the head) on myself. :)
Neko_Kawaii - what a pretty updo! I was thinking of doing either that or dutch braids into a Chinese bun for my friend's upcoming wedding. :)

It took me like ten tries, but I'm so thrilled with how this came out. It's the Daenerys Pyre Braid. I did something different from what most people do and instead of pinning my braids together I weaved the two outer braids to the inside braid. So it sort of lost the three-braid look but I still am really, really pleased with how it turned out. I hope this photo isn't gargantuan, I just grabbed it from Facebook.

Aaand here's my daenerys inspired braid. I had just woken up so I couldn't get reference pictures, so I dutch braided the two top braids and joined them together at the back, did a small lace braid under that on each side, then I had a bit of hair left over so I english braided those. I braided them all down into each other and tied it off. It's not all that neat, but as I said, I HAD just woken up xD

It's much easier than you'd think! I did a five strand braid down the middle, the usual over-under one one side and then over-under from the other side, repeat. It took one try, I was astonished. Then two lace braids down the sides of my head just for some fanciness that could also just be English braids, and the inner strand each time I did a turn I tucked through the loop of the five-strand that was beside it.

It's all practice and patients Yoni. I have been braiding hair for as long as I can remember.
It may seem weird but learning to do it on something you can see (Doll or hair buddy) and then learning on yourself is the easiest. Our muscles are pretty smart masses of soft tissue, they will remember the weaving motions the more you practice the easier it gets.
Edit:
Lydia! It's easy, you shouldn't need much practice, but patients and time yes, you need a bit of those. I hope it works!!

What a lovely braid!! lol about your arm- you just get to the easy part when you need to bring your braid over the shoulder and plait comfortably. Don't worry- just keep braiding and your arm won't be tired eventually. I think you have a lovely hair color with and without flash.

My mom asked what I call this. I don't know. It's just a braid over a braid, pinned with a stick, and the ends tucked into the bottom.

I'm trying to learn to accept I have thin hair, so it's kind of hard to look at all of these wonderful pictures, for me it's hard to even understand that people can have hair this thick. How happy you must be! :)
Oh well, here's mine. I'm surprised of the 'length', maybe it's sleeker when wet and therefor appears longer.
Also I thought the light was kind of cool, my hair does definitely not have this colour (though I'd love it if it did).

Love the flexi -- and the hairstyle, Fortresca.
The twisting pattern is interesting, teela. It's funny how it looks so different from a regular 3-strand.
I was watching a series set in Arthurian times the other day, and the actress playing Morgana had black hair styled in a braid. Like this (http://file052.bebo.com/20/large/2010/11/04/11/4606293197a12798357391l.gif), this (http://img47.xooimage.com/files/4/e/4/castle5-21c2c95.jpg), this (http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lnjipiiJV31qf7kvdo1_500.jpg). I spent most of the episode staring at it (for some reason, the camera never lingers long on the interesting parts, ie the back of the her head) and decided to replicate it. As soon as the episode finished I set to it, so this is pre-sleep hair, it's not exactly at it's best. :p The style was definitely a French braid on top, but it finished as a fishtail, or maybe a cable braid -- but I'm better with the fishtail, so I did that.
Didn't turn out quite like it (twisty twisty), but I managed to impress my neighbour, who was staying the night. And I still like the original braid.
