I'm attending a wedding that my boyfriend is the best man in and I need some ideas for updos. I want to do something fancy but not too elaborate.

I don't really have any fancy hair toys nor can I afford any at the moment. I have bobby pins and hair ties and a few plastic hair sticks and of course I have my flowers.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I have 2a/2b hair that is BSL! Thanks!:toofers:

A Victorian is simple, but looks fancy. It's a topsy-tailed (or flipped) low ponytail. The length is braided into three braids, tied together with a single tie. You loop the end up and tuck it into the tuck made by your ponytail, pinning it into place. Then all people see is a little three-braid looped deal on the back of your head, elegant and nifty.

May I ask what you are planning to wear? I often choose my hairstyles according to my clothing.

I wore a Figure8 for my Abiball (similiar to Graduation ball), but since you're a iii, your hair might be still too short for that.
A half-up would also be nice, especially with your airtype. You could have a few face-framing ringlets, put up the upper half (or third) or your hair and decorate that with something flowery. If you'd like to, your could rope braid your length beforehand to get more pronounced locks, or try boby-pin curling, making curls with fabric strands.....

The Gibson Tuck is a good one:

Its not only easy but elegant. You can easily make it fancier by adding pins. If you dont have any decorative pins, raid your jewelry box for a broach which you slide onto a hair pin, or if you have some shank buttons you can do the same with them with fuse wire to hold them in place.

What I find to be far easier and more stable than a gibson tuck is to pull the ponytail in the opposite direction and then simply roll it into itself and pin it to the back of my head.

If you have trouble with the ends add another ponytail holder after you have pulled it through and slide it down toward the the ends to help them stay together.

You will need to fool with this a few times to figure out how it works for you, but it is by far my fastest and most stable do and results in a great big bun.

I recently came up with this one : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rx1wl8fNvto, and while my hair is a bit longer than yours, GoddesJourney did it with her hair, which is a bit shorter, and it turned out just as lovely: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haHcm1ZoMKM . I think I like it better in dark hair, actually. It looks so much more sophisticated. Of course, that could just be Goddes herself. She's a classy dame. :)

I agree, that is a pretty awesome looking 'do.

Torrin Paige and GoddesJourney are strong with the Force! Listen to them, learn from them, and take what knowledge you can from them! :)

I really like this one, and it doesn't require any hair toys you don't already have: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAhNEEi3lSo

Also a french twist is always a nice formal updo that isn't too difficult and stays in place well through dancing, etc. You can leave out some hair around your face and curl it to soften the look too, if you go that route. Have fun at the wedding!

I wore a very simple braided bun, offset to the left recently. I got a lot of compliments on it. I did an english braid behind my left ear, then coiled it and tucked the tail inside. You can use any kind of pins or sticks to hold it secure.

These are all great ideas! I attempted Torrin's swoop bun.. I think with a bit more refining it may work!

Oh, it looks lovely!

Here is one of my faves lately. My hair is heavily layered and about 28" so it should work for you.
