See what I did there?

So, if you were going to be stranded on a deserted island, what five hair products would be your must-haves? If possible, it would be great if you could list them from most to least important.

Here are mine:

Body Shop Wood Comb
Double Pointed Needle Hairfork (one set of two)
Jojoba Oil
Castor Oil
My super sharp crane scissors for S&D

What would you bring?

GoddesJourney
March 25th, 2010, 12:01 PM
Horn comb
sharp scissors
coconut oil

I feel like shampoo/conditioner is a waste because it wouldn't last very long. I could make hair ties or other things to keep it up with.

Hmmm..the things I would take would be:

My Goody Ouchless brush
A hair fork
A hair elastic
Some condish to wash with
EVOO

Horn comb
sharp scissors
coconut oil

I feel like shampoo/conditioner is a waste because it wouldn't last very long. I could make hair ties or other things to keep it up with.

I feel the same way, I could figure out useful washes and rinses from local materials, and I could make new hairsticks.

Scissors, an elastic and a wooden comb.

hanne jensen
March 25th, 2010, 12:21 PM
coconut oil
mini hair clamps
wooden comb

I listed my wooden comb last because I can always finger comb. I can wash my hair with local herb teas. As long as I can put my hair up, it shouldn't be damaged. I'll dust when I'm rescued!

March 25th, 2010, 12:25 PM
hair scissors, wooden hair fork

I would mention my camilla oil, and shampoo/conditioner, but can't really do that unless there would be an endless supply. :)

March 25th, 2010, 05:52 PM
Well, since most pictures of desert islands show a coconut tree, I'll have plenty of coconut oil and milk to use as a conditioner.

I would need a swiss army knife to carve some hair sticks.

I need my Body Shop comb.

Endless supply of henna.

A laptop with internet access so I can read and post at LHC, order stuff online, etc... oh wait, is that cheating? :p :D

I'm not going to take coconut oil 'cause every island has a coconut tree. I'll just smash 'em on the rocks and make my own. I'll take my flexi8.

Sharp Machete to dehusk coconuts. I'm sure I could find a way to make coconut oil if I'm on a deserted island.
Horn comb (which I don't own) because plastic fades and gets brittle in the sun.
A hat so I don't get sunstroke
Apple Cider Vinegar- that stuff lasts me for ages and could be used for cooking, etc. if needed.
Do they all need to be hair related? cause I'd prefer to have a satelite phone handy so I can call for help. :P

Well in order for my haircare routine to work, this particular island MUST HAVE coconut trees growing all over it, and a freshwater waterfall pouring over it so I can take a proper shower!

So we've established that this island already has its own natural freshwater and has coconut trees growing all over it so I'll have plenty of coconut oil to go around.

I second ArienEllariel's idea about needing a sharp machete.......those coconuts aren't going to crack open themselves.

I'll definitely need my wide-tooth comb, I can't detangle my hair without it.

I'll also have to have truckloads and truckloads of conditioner shipped in or air-dropped onto the island. I'm going to keep COing of course.

I'll also bring an endless supply of ponytail holders and bobby pins also hairclips. I'll probably come up with all kinds of Survivor inspired braids and cornrows and updos on my head!

First and foremost I would need an unlimited supply of clean, salt free water to wash my hair with (no sea water!)
Second, I would need coconut oil
Third, I would have to have my cone free, sulfate free, paraben free conditioner
Fourth, I would want my big clip that I got at Nordstroms
and fifth, I would bring my biotin pills.

Pina Coladas and hammocks for everyone!

Loviatar
March 26th, 2010, 04:24 AM
Controversial, perhaps, but I'd take:

1. Endless supplies of LOreal Majicontrast and 20volume Peroxide
2. silk scarf (of which I would tear a small piece from one side to make a braid-tie)
3. Crabtree and Evelyn rake comb
4. My favourite hair fork
5. Biolage conditioning balm

I would make sure I was on Eric's island with the coconut trees so I didnt have to take coconut oil!

The chicken idea has me laughing out loud. Genius!

Having lived in conditions very similiar to "stuck on deserted island", I'll throw in my .02 cents:

Endless supply of running water
Matches
2-way Radio with batteries
Last known coordinates
Toilet Paper

So I can be in relative comfort 'till someone comes and takes me home where I can wash my hair in comfort. :)

1 my dh to tell me my hair still looks wonderful (he might come in handy for smashing coconuts and providing food)
2 wood hair sticks

4 amish hair pins (won't rust)
5 the professor from Gilligan's Island to find a way to provide electricity for my blowdryer - (sorry couldn't help myself)
5.5 HE conditioner

Ooo! I like this game...

My saw-cut plastic comb
A back-up comb!
An extremely durable hairstick
A sharp knife!
Some kind of really durable bottle to put rinses in
A pot to boil things in

I figure I would look for plants to use to wash my hair, so I don't want any products... and my scalp DEFINITELY produces enough oil that I wouldn't need any extra moisturizing...

C_Bookworm
March 28th, 2010, 11:03 PM
1. A wooden comb
2. Henna
3. Indigo
4. Nexxus Humectress
5. My hubby. Because I definitely wouldn't want to be on an island alone:)

Not in any order, because I can't put things into importance order to save my life. :P

I would take sharp scissors for S&D, pot to boil things in, hairbrush (combs just don't cut it sometimes), sharp knife to carve hair sticks (etc.), and a hair band/elastic.

I figure I can make everything else, and my hair is pretty used to WO.

March 29th, 2010, 06:44 PM
swiss army knife (scissors for s&d, knife for carving hair sticks)
comb
coconut oil

But just to be different, I think I'll also say that I think it would be a great challenge to have nothing at all! I could wash my hair in salt water, re-acidify with fruit juice or some kind of herbal tea, craft my own hair sticks with sharp shells or rocks... Having nothing, now that's a fun thought experiment. ;)

Really, with nothing, I think initially it would be basically be an enforced Water Only or Sebum Only challenge? I'm envisioning all the preening I'd be doing!

Teas, tisanes and infusions are pretty easy to make, but I'd really love to see people make coconut oil with no supplies!!

March 30th, 2010, 12:18 PM
I would need distilled water (endless supply)so I
'm not washing in salt water, coconut conditioner to wash with (also endless supply), coconut oil, a computer with internet accsess so I could feed my LHC addiction:p, and lots of honey. (I think I could find aloe growing freely on the island so I could still do my SMT moisture treatments ;) can you tell I really love the smell of coconuts?

Shermie Girl

Hair ties; prefably the ones without elastic as elastic tend to loose it stretchness over the years.
A thick woolen hat to prevent my hairs from freezing; not all deserted islands are warm ;).
Swiss army knife; to make my own comb and for other purposes.

Well, most stuff I would bring are really just survival stuff like an axe or 2 (defence weapon + handy tool), a flint Firelighter (lasts a lifetime!), a wool blanket (keeps warm even when wet), a tent/sleeping bag/matrass and offcourse a big backpack to fit it all in.

elina333
