:) DH and I are going with a group of friends to Shibuya (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shibuya,_Tokyo) this weekend. This area is known for it's nightlife and we plan to go out dancing and have some drinks.

However, I hate how smoky and nasty my hair gets if it's down and I can't imagine the amount of damage from dancing and airborne junk. :hmm:

Most of the time if we go to local places it's only for a few hours and I wear a half up or something with my casual-ish clothes. This Saturday is going to be club clothes and I need something super cute to do with my hair.

I have a few types of accessories: hair flowers, many types of pins, ribbons (thanks Merlin!) ect. I don't have many kinds of clips, forks or sticks though. I could go out and find something special easily though (I think).

The top I want to wear looks like this - http://www.irenelim.com/fashion/images1/cut-in-high-collar-blouse-b.jpg Minus the waist tie and mine is a pattern of black and blue. I will probably wear a skirt with it. :)

Any ideas?!

Back when smoking in clubs was legal here, I used to wear my hair up in a high bun with some tendrils free around my face. It was nice and secure, but I still had some loose hair, which could swing around my face as I danced.

It just feels wrong to me to dance with hair that doesn't move.

I'd do a very high bun, with a flower tucked onto the side of it. But that'd be if I couldn't pull off a French Twist first.

ETA: Bellalalala types faster 'n me. I second the wispy-bits.

When you say Shibuya I think gyaru!

When I club I pull my hair into a high bun and then attach a big curly hairpiece (you can get different styles at Prisila for like 5000yen). It looks like a huge complicated up do with dangly curls etc but it's actually very secure and takes like 5 secs to put on and take off at the end of the night. When you take it off, hang it up to air for a few days. If it still reeks, then Febreeze it.

The damage is only on the fake hair and your own hair is safe!

I like to wear updos like these when going out:

Maki Bun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAXcZGEw8ks)

Looped Bun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvlJhl_C-8U)

Renaissance Bun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18xKY5ZDG4s)

They are more flirty than the average bun or updo...but thats just what I like personally...:o so if its not your taste thats fine.

I'm thinking a high ponytail that can swing around as you dance. I actually think an updo would suit that top better, because it will really show off your shoulders. Have fun! :D

Of those three I'd have to vote the "Looped Bun". The other 2 don't look secure enough to me if you dance. But I don't dance. Or do 'dos very well. So don't listen to me. ;)

I second a hair piece from one of those mall stores. They make some that are attached to a jaw clip, or elastics, or to tie with a drawstring around your bun.

I think this would be a fun alternative! But I have no idea where to go look for something like that around here... :hmm:

Plus, matching my hair color might be a little difficult when most of the girls around here have very dark hair.

I'm thinking a high ponytail with length curled and pinned up for now. I can't wait for my hair to dry so I can practice some different looks. :D

The Renaissance Bun is secure enough for medieval show fighting if done well :D...
The double Maki can be secure when tight...Looped bun just has to be pinned right to be secure.

Emichee: How hard is it to keep in a Maki bun without a fork? I'd like to wear that for a day look tomorrow?

Oh and the looped bun, wow, it's gorgeous. I don't know if I have the length to get the beautiful draped look though. I love your hair :flower:

A cool club look I've seen on considerably long hair is the high slicked back pony with a lock of hair wrapped around the elastic to hide it. You could pincurl the hair in the actual ponytail for an interesting look.

I always used to do two braided buns on the top of my head that looked a bit like Minnie Mouse ears. It was a great style for adding hair flowers or streamers or whatever, and I found if I braided my hair tightly, it kept the smoke out.

Yes, I agree with Katurday, that is a very 'cool' look. :)

For clubwear, I agree that up is better, and braided buns are probably the best way to minimize smoke-stink (though I THINK I remember someone here used to spritz her hair with a vinegar/water mix after clubbing, as a deodorizer, so if you still end up with stinky hair, this might work after the fact).

Wow, Emichee, those styles are terrific! Now I know how I'm wearing my hair for the day... Thanks for sharing them!

I'm assuming you live in Japan? You can get nice hairpieces from Prisila online, they aren't terribly pricey, are great quality and come in a variety of colors from black to the brassy blond peroxided Asian hair turns into when one has indulged in too many hair coloring processes! They have a big variety of styles, from big teased himegyaru curls to sleek OL-kei boufs.

do a pair of sock buns high on the back of your head

I like Loepsie's stuff
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I13J7ArHTkM

She has other cute styles that I would think would be cute for clubbing.

There's a way to do the pair of sock buns in Sailor Moon style with the hair hanging down from them, do a search

Isa had about your hair length when I did the bun on her! I drape my length twice so that cuts the length in half :)

Maki bun without a fork is tough for me since the rolled up parts will unroll, the simple maki might stay rather than the double. Hairpins may help too.:)

Plus, matching my hair color might be a little difficult when most of the girls around here have very dark hair.

Navana Wigs might be the best place to look. There's one in the basement of Shibuya 109 so you could stop in on the way to the club. Navana uses human hair for their extensions and hairpieces and their pieces cost about twice as much as Prisila's, but the quality is better. If you go to the shop in person, the staff will sit you down and take the time to try on as many pieces as you need to get the best color match. Navana can custom-blend hair to get a perfect match for loose extensions, but their color choices are more limited for the pre-made hairpieces.

Prisila is really an online shop but there are some shops in the Tokyo area which carry a limited selection of their pieces. I'd recommend Okadaya in Shinjuku. They have the best selection I've seen around here and if you ask the staff, they will probably allow you to try some of the pieces. However, IIRC Okadaya (and most other brick-and-mortar shops) leaned heavily toward the dark side of the color spectrum, and you may not be able to find Prisila's lighter shades there.

Be aware that you will get the best results by getting TWO (or more) hairpieces, particularly if you're going for one of the lighter colors. There's no way you're going to find a synthetic hairpiece that will be a perfect match for your real bangs, but you can minimize the "fake" effect by combining a half-wig with a matching maegami (bangs/fringe) wig from the same manufacturer.

(EDIT) This thread reminded me so I wore a Prisila half-wig to a concert today. I thought it looked kinda fake and was shy at first, but it actually fooled a lot of my friends, maybe because it's a style I could do with my own real hair and an hour of work. So apparently Prisila wigs are more believable than I'd thought. (LOL)

Pair something messy-looking, like a bun of some sort with the ends left out like this (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=2615&pictureid=34940), with one of those flower things you have...I bet that'd look super cute!!

Or high braided pigtail buns? Like this (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=2615&pictureid=50055).

I like the other suggestions people have too, but those two styles were what first came to mind when I read your OP. :) Hope you have an awesome weekend!!! :D
