I have been doing S&D's almost every night for the last week or so and have noticed some hairs that seem thick for the most part and then taper to a very fine end, almost looking like half a hair. I chop them but am wondering if they are in fact virgin hair that has never been cut or the start of a split. Anyone know?

I noticed the same and think they are new virgin hairs. I see them in the whole length even near my head. It's unlikely to be damaged so far up so it's new hair I presume. :)

yes, those are new hairs! As long as you take care of them they will (hopefully) remain undamaged! :)

I agree with the mob. Those are virgin hairs. :)

Hooray for new growth! Just like everyone else says those are the new hairs that are growing in, and aren't thick until the end because they haven't been trimmed (thus blunted), just like a treetop. :D We know the difference between a fully grown tree and a tree stump, and it equates to hair very similarly, although for our "fully grown trees" we're less inclined to enjoy the branches. ;) :p
