Well, I've spent nearly a month here, watching gorgeous heads around ,seeking tips and making my hair routine.
After quite a lot of experimentations and modifications of original recipes,I made a magic recipe that worked for my hair.
I have a deep treatment with coconut milk and conditioner in the ratio 1:2 on the day after my wash.I also add a drop or two of castor oil.It has helped a lot in making my hair feel soft and tangle free, without weighing it down. Also, coconut milk and castor oil stimulates growth when applied to clean scalp and hair.I am not sure,if anyone followed this treatment here.If so,I apologize.
So,what did you discover after LHC?:)

The biggest revelations for me:
1. Coconut oil the night before wash day. After a lifetime of battling my "oily" hair, I now realize that natural oil is my hair's best friend. Who'da thunk?
2. Putting my conditioner on my length only (ears down). D'oh! No wonder I had an oily scalp. I was stripping it to death and then dousing it in dimethicone afterward
3. Putting my conditioner on my length only on DRY hair, about an hour before getting in the shower. My shower routine takes less than half the time.
4. Henna! Never going back to boxed dye again
5. Vinegar rinse (1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar in 8 ounces of water) as the final rinse. Always. NICE mad shine :).

I created this deep conditioning treatment from whatever I had on hand
1/2 cup coconut milk
1/2 cup conditioner (Organix coconut milk conditioner, Rainbow Organic Henna & Biotin Conditioner, and Garnier Fructis Fortifying Deep Conditioner)
1/2 tsp EVOO
It smelled so good that I wanted to eat it! I even saved the leftovers in the fridge to use again. It made my hair super soft and sweet-smelling. Yum!

Cirafly,yours is similar to mine!
Do you use low fat coconut milk?I use fresh extract, hence I have to use twice as much conditioner as you do.Yes,addition of EVOO is a good idea.:)
Once I used L'oreal 5 min repair masque instead of the conditioner, but the results were not different.

I wish ther was an alternative for coconut milk. I am sensitive to the oil and when eaten It swells my lips, so I am not to keen on trying it on my scalp and over all body with the rinse. Would like to try a homemade receipe if any ideas, I do enjoy my apple cider vinegar.

ACV is not a nourishing agent like coconut milk.I am sorry,I can't find a substitute.Skysraine, please don't try coconut milk or anything for that matter on a scalp which grows hair at an alarming rate!:D.
We would love to read your personal hair care recipes.:)

Since starting to lurk on this board a month ago, I have:
Tried an oil treatment before shampoo (worked SUPER well)
Bought a shampoo bar (and am eagerly awaiting it's delivery)
Discovered Diatomaceous earth
and cooked up a batch of cayenne pepper scalp treatment
I don't know if a completely new hair care routine counts as an invention, but mine has definitely done a complete 180! :)

I have a few new tricks, and I only just found LHC:
1. I stopped piling my hair on top of my head in the shower. Duh.
2. I stopped wringing my wet hair out. Double Duh.
3. I tried condition-wash-condition - awesome!
4. I learned what a polar buff is, and am going to order one!
5. I am trying to discipline myself to wear my hair up more often.
6. I did search and destroy! This is going to be my new OCD habit. Uh-oh.
7. I love my Grahtoe hair fork!
8. I have all the ingredients on hand for a killer end salve, I just have to mix it up.
Yea!

Cardamon,
Ok I have some questions for you? when you say Coconut Milk do you mean fresh? or canned?
I would probably use fresh made coconut cream as this is excellent for the skin.. so in my mind the hair would also benefit. =1pt
Conditioner=2pt
2 drops of castor oil added to the mix right?
After giving us this recipe why would you apologize? Sounds like it would be great for our hair?

Thank you Star Eagle!:)
I use fresh coconut milk and a good conditioner in the ratio 1: 2,to which 2 or 3 drops of castor oil is added.
Massage gently on the scalp and use a wide toothed detangling comb to spread it along the shafts.
Save a teaspoon of the mixture, you'll need it to dab it on the tips.
It is an ideal treatment for hair if done after a wash day, obviously it helps to nourish and moisturize better.

I made a deep treatment out of heavy whipping cream, melted chocolate, and coconut milk! The coconut milk was to much protein though, and I'm still looking for a replacement.

Twil,
Gee you must have had a hard time not wanting to eat instead of putting it on your hair.... Ha Ha

My most important LHC "invention", I think, is the collection of instructions that I've put together into the "Ursula's Standard Newbie Advice" article.
A fairly simple and inexpensive way to help new people orient themselves to LHC, one that helps people learn to understand and work with their hair, and one which has repeatedly been mentioned by others as having been helpful for them.

Yes, I used low fat canned coconut milk, as that is what I had on hand. I have since done this deep conditioning treatment again, and oooh it smells so good!
I also noticed that since I'm wearing my hair in a bun most days, the smell of my conditioner lingers much longer! Every time I take it down to comb and rebraid/bun at night, I can smell the coconut and almond scent of my conditioner. I love it!
