This is the only bun that will stay in my hair these days, and I'm not sure what it is. It starts off like a nautilus bun, but then I think it goes off in another direction. Does it resemble any buns that you know of? I'd really like to have a name for it!

I've created an album with all of the steps. Unfortunately, I can't order the pictures as I want to, so you have to scroll over each picture for the step sequence and instructions.

Here is the album. (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=5096)

Any help with identification and naming this bun would be greatly appreciated :flower:

Many thanks in advance!

I've definitely read the instructions for it before, but I have no idea. Sorry.

Yes, that's very similar! Thanks!

Can you explain the steps you use to get there? I've got slippery hair just a smidge shorter than yours and I'm having a terrible time making a bun without using all kinds of hardware.

It's almost identical to a Celtic Knot, except that the beginning wrap around your hand adds and additional twist to the length before you create the second loop.

It's lovely!

I don't know a name for it, but wanted to try it. For some reason, though, I couldn't access your album. So, I tried the Neoma knot. It seems very secure, but I end up with either lots of leftover hair or a very big 'second loop' (as opposed to 'donut hole'), making the hair poke out pretty far from the back of my head and look kind of big and floppy. Am I doing something wrong, or is my hair too long for this kind of bun?

Joette, you wrap all the hair over your hand and then twist that into a loop. You pull your ends partially through the loop, forming another loop. You'll end up with something like this: CO. The C is the ends that were pulled through. Insert a stick over the right side of the O, under the left side of the O, and over the C. I hope that helps. You probably can't see the album yet. Also, as said here, it is a lot like the Neoma Knot and the Celtic Knot so maybe a search for those will bring you good results. Good luck. I hope that helps!

Tresses, thanks! I just looked at Emi's version and I think that's basically what it is. Yay! I feel better having a name for it :)

kevala, I doubt it's too long. Does this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUQAucReptY&feature=related) help (it's from another member)?

Thank you; the video is very clear! I can make a bun that looks like the one shown, but I still end up with a long tail. I see that the woman in the video ends up with a tail, too, and wraps it around in the end...I did that and it popped out again very quickly. As far as I can tell, my hair is a couple of inches shorter than that of the woman in the video, but with more volume at the bottom (possibly the reason for the 'popping out'). I think it's around 37-38 inches. I could probably bobby pin the tail under the bun, but I'd prefer to avoid doing that if possible. I'll give it a few more tries and see if I figure a way around this issue. I really like the bun, and I'll find a way to make it work for me!

Hm...the one thing I can think of off the top of my head is to fold the tail before pulling it through the loop.
