View Full Version : Updos lay flat?

I've been playing with a few different updo's... I'm sick of always wearing either a braid or a ponytail. I'm finding that most of my bun's tend to form more of a column sticking out from the back of my head, than to lay flat and spread out side to side. Does anyone have any tricks to lay it flat?

I forgot to add that I think it's because my hair is very fine, so my volume appears fairly thin. I've noticed people with thicker hair seem to not have this problem as much.

I have very thin and relatively fine hair, so I have experienced this, too. I pin my buns as I create them - for instance, I pin the inside ring of a cinnabun, then wrap around another swirl and pin it on the opposite side, and so on. The lay much flatter, then. I don't much care for the look of a bee butt bun, myself, the flatter ones look better on me, and are more professional looking for work. I do the same when I do a Chinese or braided bun, too.

Thank you, Heidihug, that sounds like what I'll need to do... which leads to my next issue... lol, all my hairpins appear to have walked away. :sigh: :toddles off to wally-world for more hairpins:

Pixna recently had a whole thread about flat buns, and another for lefty buns and another for one stick buns. Check them out for some great suggestions. :D
