Well, last week, I was on my way to work and I saw something black and shiny lying on the pavement and it looked like a hairstick. So, I stopped and picked it up, and it WAS a hairstick!

It was a great surprise as I have never ever seen anyone wearing a hairstick IRL!

Maybe it's just me being silly, but I thought I could post a picture of it here, there is a chance it's owner is a member here and could see it so I could return it back to her.

( it's a plastic hairstick, nothing fancy, and is pretty damaged but it's not easy to find hairsticks here where I live and if this happened to me, I'd be very happy if someone returned it back to me :))

You can see the damage, I think sanding and nail polish might help.

ETA: Just wanted to add- I first saw it on Wednesday and picked it up on Thursday, it was lying down there for more than 24 hours!

ETA 2:
Since the real owner didn't show up :), I did some reparation work and this is how it looks now:

You fool!! That hairstick is clearly the weapon in a bizarre murder (http://www.cityofkewanee.com/csi.jpg) which the killer threw away while fleeing the scene - soon, by the miracles of forensic science (http://timstvshowcase.com/quincy6.jpg) it will be tracked down and your prints will be on it.

I don't think you get access to LHC in prison (http://prisonmovies.nfshost.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/womens-prison-55-0.jpg)....

That's a cool shape! Reminds me of these wooden hairsticks http://www.crystalmood.com/exquisite-hand-carved-boxwood-hair-stick-silk-p-3809.html :) I'm sure the owner won't miss it. Go ahead and paint it any color you like. :)

I give you kudos for posting on here to see if it had an owner, not many people would do that. My lawyer wears hair sticks from clairs, although her styles need some work ;)

Hair sticks are hard to find here in Finland too. It's getting easier to find decorative sticks that are not sturdy and are just meant to look pretty, but to find sturdy ones, that's different thing. Your looks like it is a sturdy one :) If the owner doesn't found, you could sand paper it and paint it, and maybe glue some pearl or other decoration on the top? I like the shape!

I once lost my own very cheap stick outside and was devasteted, I went back and followed my own tracks and found it again :D

That's really cute! I hate that someone either didn't want it or lost it. It's almost like a stray puppy. You feel sorry for it and want to give it a home and love. :p

if you keep it I'd give it a soak in bleach first if you can and smooth out the rough spots. I know that it's unsolicited advice and all, but... just saying. Hate to have all your hard work go out the window.

I dropped a fork from my purse once and a lady behind me returned it. Kinda like "I don't know what this is but I think you dropped it". I don't think she understood my EXTREME gratitude!

Ooh, you know, I actually think bleach might not be a good idea on plastic. I am pretty sure it can wear away at or even dissolve some plastics.

It's not mine. I lost a custom-made manta ray hair stick on the trail while walking my dogs one day. I had 2 hairsticks in my hair so didn't notice that one fell. Sigh -- I wish somebody had found it. But oh well, the same trail gave me a Gumby not long after that. Not exactly a good trade, but at least I got something in return.

That's really sweet of you to try to find the owner! :)

Yesterday, during a day long conference, I had my hair down all day until after I made a speech. I would have put it up before the speech, except that I didn't want to have a wonky, quickly done updo in front of hundreds of people.
After returning to my seat, I absentmindedly picked up what I *thought* was my hairstick, and did a hypno bun. It turned out that I had swiped the pencil of the gentleman sitting beside me! Needless to say, he was very gracious, and didn't say anything about it until I found my real hairstick, realized my mistake, and returned the pencil (:

It's only a hairstick because you know what it is. Anyone else would have been like "I found this squiggly thing on the street"

Hmmmm, I know when life gives you lemons, you should make lemonade, what do you make when life gives you Gumbys? :hmm: you should have made a GUMBY hairstick! LOL

Should I go to a police station now and report it?
I wouldn't mind going to prison, but not having the access to LHC would be a tragedy!

Or should I just throw it away and run ( I already disinfected it with Asepsol, I don't think my prints are still on it) :D

Yeah.
Better to use a vinegar and water or alcohol and water solution to clean it.

I wore hair sticks to work the other day and one kept falling out all day long. Every time, I managed to find it and the times students picked it up I had to contain my smirks at their quizzical looks.

That's a whole new thread... found hair sticks: what we find and what we do to them if they're not claimed.

That's cool that you found a hairstick!

I lost one of mine (and a custom-made one at that) when I was on a walk in the night in India last month. I didn't realize it until I left that town. :( Just in case anyone finds a topped dymondwood Ketylo in Kodaikanal, please let me know. :)

^ Be careful serious, it could be plagued by an ancient curse, just waiting for a new head of hair to inhabit!

Judging by the looks and condition, it was probably crafted in 5000 B.C. Most likely by the Egyptians. It has a "serpentine" shape to it. It was possibly worn by the Pharaoh's Queen. Legend has it that. . . She has terrible powers, and killed the Pharaoh to gain the status of Empress! Then the Pharaoh's personal bodyguard, eventually killed her. However the Empress had one last trick left. . . She sealed her very soul within her favorite hair ornament (hairstick) so she could be revived later on.

I fear that if you wear that hairstick, she could come back from the dead, then possess you, so she can rebuild her kingdom!

LOL sorry I went off on a tanget, I couldn't help it. Anytime I see objects or unknown items, I always wonder where they came from. :p

LOL, yellowchariot, I wouldn't mind to become an Egyptian Queen :D

Anyways, since the owner didn't show up ( the chances for that were minimal, I'm aware of that :D), I did some reparation and painted it with nail polish.

So, it's official: from now on, it is mine! :)

I'm going to edit my first post and add some pictures, so you all can see how it looks now. I like how it turned out!

*I* think it was meant for you. Obviously its previous owner didn't love it enough and allowed it to get all mangled. You found it, repaired it, and turned it into something more beautiful than its original, kind of like Cinderella! :wannabe:

Wear it with great happiness!

I wore it today at work, it holds surprisingly well, it's size is perfect and it really works great for my current length!
