I need your advice, because I'm so confused.
I want my hair long but I got a year of hairloss because of undiagnosed Hashimoto. I lost nearly 2 inches of circumstance and my length look like that.
I really love FTEs but not at BSL.
So what should I do? Cut at APL or is there any hope?
I trimmed the whole 2009 but at least its almost awful now. :(

Any advice?

Are the ends damaged, or just thinner than you'd like? If they're not damaged, I'd maybe just do some micro trims every month or so to thicken up the hemline. Also, do you prefer to wear your hair up or down? Updos would be a great way to keep the entire length protected. I know a lot of LHC people who keep their hair in updos most of the time are pleasantly surprised when they let their hair down and notice they've gained considerable length!

Your hair looks lovely, and I'm glad you got your thyroid problems diagnosed.
Your hair looks thick and healthy from APL and up, but a bit scraggly from APL and down - unfortunately, there is no way to repair hair, but perhaps you could keep some of the damaged ends and cut a little off. In my opinion, healthy hair is more important than long hair - but only to some degree. Shorter than APL, and I'd say length over health.

You could cut an inch every week, just to see if you feel happier with shorter and healthier hair. If you don't, then you haven't done anything drastic by cutting and inch or two. And remember the 2-week-rule before doing anything ;)

My whole hair is damaged. I hope its from the hashimoto. My hair is really dry and brittle.
I hope, my *new* hair will be better.

I wear my hair up everyday, but I want the feeling that I could wear them down if I want it.

The one inch a week sounds good. Maybe that could be my way.

Okay, I've had a similar situation with my hair before. What I did to remedy the situation was to cut to APL and then trim a teeny bit every few months. My hair grew to almost waist, still looking very nice. I've since cut it for other reasons, but I'm growing it again.

I suggest cutting it back to where it starts to look thin, which is about APL. Then make sure you trim even 1/4 of an inch every 3 or four months to keep your ends neat.

You'll have that length back before you know it, and I think you'll enjoy your hair much more. Of course it's your hair and your decision. Make sure you give it enough thought.:blossom:

Franny, could you tell me, how long it takes until your hair grows from APL to waist with trimming in between?

I think cutting would be best. I have trimmed the whole last year and nothing looks better.

I went from APL to bottom to bottom of BSL in 5 months. I went from APL to waist in about a year. I was trimming 1/2 inch every 3 months. However, bear in mind that my hair is 1a, and therefore every inch really looks like an inch. Your journey may be longer or shorter than mine.

In any case, if you're like me, you'll be so much happier with thick, blunt, ends to grow out. If you keep the ends slowly trimmed, your progress will be more enjoyable, I suspect.

I wish you luck, and I hope that you post photos. I really do understand your predicament. :grouphug:

APL to waist in 1 year, thats really great. I tink I'm a little longer than you. It took me a year to go from APL to BSL

I trimmed 2 inches. But at least it doesn't look any better than before.

I wait a few days and than I will trimm the next two inches.
My hair looks so greasy, but it isn't don't know if it comes from the flashlight.
Maybe I should do a deepcleansing wash

Hey there ! I hope you are feeing better now - I dont know about your diagnosis, but I hope the disease is under control !

I can imagine your hairloss problem, due to strong medicines - I'd suggest that if you have some patience, and are willing to get your hair growing again (and ofcrs your overall health restored) - you should immediately start Pranayam-Yoga (This is not the yoga with the physical postures, it is yoga with breathing, and it is very effective - hair revitalisation included !) I'd be happy to help you further if you want more info on this too ! Take care :)

I was in the exact same situation as you, hairloss from hashimotos. I chose to cut my hair, from bsl to chin length, it was kind of an extreme choice.

but now that is growing out the top is much thicker than the ends which still have some stragglyness to them. Now I'm just kinda trying to keep it healthy and maintained while it grows back in and gets longer.

I think You have lovely hair but I understand how you feel. If you dont want an extreme cut, I would just keep up with trims and grow out the damage, and if the ends bother you...updos!

longhairdream, thank you for your yoga-advice, I will look around, if I could learn it.

peronella, it's good to hear, that it might be better. I hope my *new* hair will grow more and healthier.

I can't wait, I trimmed another 2 inches, so now it looks a little bit better to me.

I think the trim was a good choice your hair hair looks much healthier and it doesn't really look any shorter. Just hang in there,
It will get better, I have little baby hairs and new growth making a halo all around my head and the sparse spots are filling in. its slow but its improving. make sure you keep up with your vitamins!

Right now I take a women's multivitamin (centrum ultra women's) That has all the B vitamins including biotin. B vitamins are good for your hair, ive noticed definite improvement in my hair since I started with the vitamins. there are other supplements you can take there are supplements that are just for hair, there are pretty much just B vitamins though, namely folic acid and biotin (I dont take these cuz they're pricey and I find my needs pretty much met with the Multi, But lots of people here take them so they so they should have more info for you;)). talk to your doctor about what vitamins are best for you.

Yes, I take thyroxin currently, I just recently found that website too,(like in the last few days) I'mnot sure what to think, but I am concerned because I have alot of the symptoms on their list, I have recently switched doctors too, so I'm planning to talk to my new dr about what I read on that site next week at my first appt. hopefully I can get better thyroid care from this Dr, my last one was a bit incompetent. Armour is hard to get here in the US too, i guess drs just dont like to prescribe it, and i'm sure insurance companies don't like to pay for it...

I take b-vitamins too. So that seems to be a right. But I didn't notice anything yet.

I will ask my doctor too, but I think she wouln't be exalted.

Thank you so much clarisse, I'm really happy that it looks better now. I think trimming now for a few month will make a better basis to let it grow again.

Mugili, I think that your hair loos really good after that second trim and that you shouldn't trim anymore for now. Maybe microtrims on a monthly basis so that you get the damage out. I do believe that the damage is from Hashi as you're taking extremly good care of your hair so your regrowth is likely to be healthier and thicker.

Today I cut all my layers back.
Now I start all over again with 24 inches, thats with what I start 1,5 year ago...hope now it will be better.

I still got a lot of damage through hairloss and hashimoto...so won't reach TBL very soon...but I will reach it sometimes! :cheese:
