Never be afraid of wiki! It's kind of rare to see the braids, well not rare, but not as common. Adult women (it's my understanding) were veils, which is why I think the female in the original link is a young girl.

According to the wiki posted, the men wear veils, but not the women. Very beautiful braids!

The twisty ones are very similar to a technique used to make a certain style of synthetic dreadlocks (I used to make sets)

Picture (http://quinnster.fqdn.net/dreads/dr99.jpg)

Link to the tutorial (http://quinnster.fqdn.net/dreads/index.html#wrapped)

So basically if you're doing this with your natural hair, you braid a section and then take another piece and wrap it tightly around the braid. Not sure how you would secure it at the bottom considering they just seal it (synth hair is plastic and heat makes it melt/glue together) but you could play around with it! :)

They are really nice. I found another photo, not sure if it's the same girl. Probably not, but I think it shows how pretty it looks.

Is it just me or are these women absolutely gorgeous?

According to the wiki posted, the men wear veils, but not the women. Very beautiful braids!

The men wear a type of scarf wrapped around the head, and cover most of their face with one of the ends. The veil that I've seen women wear is more like a shawl or large scarf placed over the head with the ends hanging down in front.

When we saw Tinariwen perform recently, the woman who was singing with them kept 'resetting' her scarf since it wasn't secured and kept sliding back. It never fell far enough to see how long her hair was though...
