I can do some of my favorite buns double-wrapped now, like double wrapped Spock bun or Nautilus or Tatsilus. It feels so good to be able to do that, to have the length for it!

(Today I tried a double-wrapped Chameleon bun, and I´m missing a half a turn for the base, how annoying :D )

I can do Morgan Donner-esque braids now! I just tied the ends of my two braids together and looped them over my head. They don't overlap at all (yet) (I tied them together, so they can't) but I crossed them in the back!

Honestly being able to do them properly (with overlap and hidden ends) has been my main length goal for a while now, and I think I'm getting close!

My buns now seems to feel heavy on my head no matter how I put it up. It doesn't cause headaches or anything (as long as I don't wear it in top of my head), it's just a pleasant weight reminding me my hair is longer now than it's ever been. I wonder if a version of hair taping would be more weightless?

Nefcerka
February 18th, 2024, 03:15 AM
I too notice that my buns feel heavier, and that´s really a subjective feeling, because my super fine and thin hair objectively cannot weight that much.

I haven´t tried hair taping nor am I planning to, but a coronet braid does seem weightless, in comparison to a bun or a simple braid.

Counting it as a milestone because it made my hair feel so long.

Yay for new buns! I can never get my hands to cooperate and double wrap, so it's extra impressive to me :)

I realised the last time I posted on this thread was 3 years ago, saying I could feel my hair on the back of my legs when I was wearing shorts. Well, after lurking and wearing a bun almost every day, I went out last night and could feel my hair tickling the back of my calves :cloud9:

Yeah, I think textured hair, no matter how tightly you try to pull it, will always have more space between the strands than straighter hair, making for thicker circumference.

i think it may also depend on how "strongly" the hair holds curl or maybe natural porosity, i have about the same circumference straight and curly :/

That is one of the best feelings ever :beerchug:

I have reached the point where I need to wrap my hair around my neck like a scarf when using the restroom. Really can't wear my hair braided when I'm doing house chores, either. It just flops over my shoulder and gets into whatever I'm trying to do!

I remember when I decided it was too uncomfortable to wear a braid to bed because I would roll on it. I feel like this is the next level up from that.

I feel like this will be how I decide what length to stop growing, if it starts to hinder daily activities. For now I'm going to get back to hip, maybe to TBL and decide from there if I want to keep going.

I came to add something similar! I was sitting cross-legged in the mowed grass with a friend, my posture wasn't great but I was upright all the same, and my ends were pooling in the grass below! I had just washed it, unfortunately, but realizing my hair was on the floor while sitting was worth it!

Your next milestone sounds like it'll be extracting it from your desk chair's wheels! Or stepping on it when you stand up out of your chair. That's not fun. Though since it's braids you probably already went thru that stage earlier loose

Wow, Shelomit, as a habitual braid wearer for mumble-mumble years I am deeply impressed with your floor sweeping braids.

Yesterday and this morning, I made a two-strand braid on one side of my head and secured the end with a tiny barrette. I ended up tucking the unbraided side behind my ear. So, when I got home, I made two-strand braids on both sides and secured them with matching baby barrettes.

The updo looks cute and I love having my hair off my face, though I look prettier with face-framing layers.

For those who don't know, I cut my waist-length hair a few years ago. After a few false starts, I think I've recommitted to growing it out at least to APL so I can make French twists. I'm just concerned because my 1a hair is so thin after multiple Great Sheds.

At the moment, I have an asymmetrical bob. To make it worse, the back is undercut. Growing it out will require time and patience.

I reserve the right to cut, but I am tentatively excited about the prospect of having long hair again.

I've gotten a lot better at braiding almost down to the ends of my braids, so when I do Heidi braids, the tassels are much easier to tuck under each braid! This has maybe less to do with length and more with skill, but even at MBL, I sometimes struggle to do hairstyles for longish hair. I'm five foot and a half, so I sometimes feel like my mbl must be someone else's apl. It can be a blessing or a curse...so being able to do this hairstyle well made me happy.

I braided my hair today, a single Dutch braid...and oh my goodness, it's finally happening. My braid...it has its own physics. I don't know how to describe it, but when you have a real short braid and you move your head, obviously the braid is along for the ride and just swings stiffly in whatever direction your head does. But now when I turn my head, I feel my braid swinging, and sometimes different parts of it move in different directions! 😭 I haven't felt that feeling since I was a kid younger than 12, more than half my life ago!
