I love to read "hair books," even though I rarely agree with them 100%. I still refer to Paula Begoun's "Don't Go Shopping for Haircare Products Without Me," even though it is a bit outdated now. I flipped through Nick Arrojo's "Great Hair" the other day, and it had some long styles I liked. Now I'm on the hunt for a book to learn about essential oils, etc. and try some recipes.

What are your favorite hair books? :)

If LHC were a book, it would be my favorite!

I don't have a favorite currently, but I remember when I was in middle school, there were at least a couple Klutz books that showed you how to do all the different hair styles. My mom did rope braids a few times for me when there was extra time in the morning. I remember that the rope braid instructions said to use three strands instead of just two like most of us at LHC do.

I just looked them up. One is called Braids and Bows, and the other is called Hair: A Book. I loved looking at the pictures the most, especially in the second one. I don't think I ever actually owned either book. Either my friends did or I got them from the library.

I have a few books but my favourite is the George Michaels book. I think its called beautiful hair...I don't have it right now because its packed and sent as i am moving places. But its full of really long hair pictures and how to trim it and washing techniques etc...sometimes when i feel really low, i just browse through it and get motivated :)

Another fan of "The Curly Girl Handbook" here! Also, "Curly Like Me" by Teri LaFlesh. I'd love to find some books that are focused more narrowly on just styling/braiding/updo techniques, though.

I used to read Paula Begoun's cosmetic books, but she lost all credibility with me when she started her own line and used an ingredient that is very sensitizing and causes a lot of problems for some people (bismuth oxychloride). I confess, I don't read any books on hair care. I get most of my info online, and tend to take everything with a grain of salt. This year's brand new scientific discovery will be old news in five or ten years when they come up with something completely different, which may or may not conflict with what they were previously saying. If my hair is growing and still attached to my head, I think I am fine, no matter what the hair care industry says to the contrary.

I agree. I had her books, one for hair care and one for beauty products. Also visit her beautypedia.com website to check out her opinions on the best products. I am hesitant though, because she also sells her own products. How can you have an unbiased (is that the right word?) opinion when you are trying to make money selling your own products.......................
