I never thought they were, and I have been using them for the last few weeks and they work great for volume and also to smooth the hair.

Some one told me they were damaging? Really? Just when I was happy with a styling method that didn't use heat...

Yes. VERY. They rip your hair to shreds. They are not long hair friendly at all. They are OK for short hair that is trimmed often. Do a LHC search and you'll find a bunch of info about them.

I would say they are. Velcro sticks by tiny, grabby hooks. Ever gotten burs in your hair? Like that.

I can't use them. Heck, I have trouble with my raincoat - it has some velcro fasteners on the front and my braid tassel and scarves get tangled in them. I'd never be able to get velcro rollers *out* of my hair.

If you have no trouble getting them out of your hair, no tangles and breakage, then they're ok for you. Pay attention, though, and if you start noticing tangling and trouble, then you'll want to stop using them.

They remind me of "brush rollers" from years ago. Those worked great on short hair, but if my hair was long enough to wrap around the roller more than once, then I almost had to cut the rollers out of my hair.

embee, that's so funny about brush rollers. I had the same problem. I used to sleep on them. Everyone did. And we had those pink "picks" that we'd insert to keep them tight. My god, how they hurt.

But the funniest thing was that in the olden days, it was common to see women going to the store, doctor, anywhere, with rollers in their hair and a bandana over them. Seriously. In fact, on girl I knew practically wore them as an actual hairstyle. I don't think I ever saw her out of them.

Never call them "the good old days." They weren't.

They are damaging, there is no getting around that. But there are a few options for you. You can replace the velcro rollers with magnetic ones. There is a bit of a learning curve just do a search for wetset, and you will find lots of information on it.
Or another thing that you can do, what I have done, I just remove the velcro and use the roller without. That way I have some of the benefits of drying that way, like, a faster drying time. :)
I hope that you find something that works for you.
