I'm worried about my older brother's hair. Not even two years ago he had thick beautiful APL hair. He is only 25 but his hair is now very thin on top. I think why his hair is thinning is environmental. He shampoos his hair daily, never conditions it and rakes a brush through it (even befor LHC I would cringe). His hair is 3a, f and was like ii/iii(now like i). Is there any way I could help him?

Well, if he's treating his hair that badly, I would say tell him to STOP doing that and START treating his hair well by brushing it gently and conditioning his hair! If he absolutely has to wash everyday, have him deep condition at least once a month.
Since he's already thinning, the only thing I can think of to help it grow back is Rogaine or something similar. :/ I know they have procedures now to restore hair, but I'm not sure is he wants to go that far.
I hope this helped.

And does male pattern balding run in your family?
It's not uncommon to start thinning at his age.

Yeah, all my brothers started thinning at that age. It isn't necessarily because of bad treatment, although I am sure that doesn't help. If you have male pattern baldness in the genes best of luck fighting it, I think Rogaine is a possibility. Maybe there are more ideas out there.

I have two brothers who both started balding at that age or earlier. My husband started balding at around age 21. So, it might just be male pattern baldness. Is his hair still long?

I would guess it's male pattern baldness... but just my guess. :)

hair transplants are really cheap in Iran, I think they go for about $1300 US if he ever decides to do it.

Like others have said, it sounds like it's probably male pattern baldness. He's the perfect age for it. Treating his hair nicely definitely won't hurt, and encourage him to put some conditioner in his curls to make the combing easier.
As others have said, encourage him to try Rogaine. DH started using it due to slow thinning on top, and the results have been surprising. You can get the generic liquid quite cheap, on the order of $20 for 3 months' supply, but he's got to be the one to use it.

My son in law is only 25 and nearly completely bald. Not unusual for guys, unfortunately.

He has asked me a few times if I know anything that could help, but I don't know if I really could help him.
Baldness really doesn't run in my family. On my mom's side of the family men have nice full heads of hair and I don't know anyone that's bald on my Dad's side. Even though my Dad did have a small bald in his late fourties, but that was from sickness.
My brother still has long hair.
Well I guess he does just suffer from male pattern baldness. :(

It honestly sounds like it's not male pattern baldness. I bet it would get better if he would start treating his hair better.

I think perhaps the shampoo he uses is a bit harsh, if its daily use he should avoid using the whole pantene and head and shoulders line.
use american crew shampoo its more natural!
also I think it has to do with age, but yes it seems he does not take good care of it.
remember though he could have this coming from family genes, everyone in their family has at least one person who is bald. or receding hair lines.
