I'm trying to learn a few new braids and I've always loved the herringbone (difficult with such short hair and layers, but I still really liked it). I remember looking at the directions for this braid in the Klutz Braid Book almost 15 years ago and being so perplexed. It's not as hard as I always thought.

It looks really pretty :)

I tried to do a herringbone braid a while ago and I just can't seem to get it to look nice and even.

That looks gorgeous. I still struggle with the fishtail.

Congratulations :D
I did my first one yesterday. It stayed up well. Not very even - but it's a start. Yours looks nice.

Fishtail braids are my favourite braid! They're also a lot easier for me to do than a standard three-strand braid because I only have to keep track of two chunks of hair instead of three :P Yours looks very nice! Your hair looks great :)

looks like you used bigger sections of hair to do it. When i do it i use very small sections and it looks less like regular english braid. I suggest you try that; it takes very long time to finish but the result looks pretty :)

Very cute! That's a very thick braid, too :)
I've only so far mastered the french herringbone -- now I'll have to go off and try this one!

OleanderTime, I'm trying to figure this particular braid out. I always get confused. It seems like it would be a very secure style. You did a great job, very intricate! It also looks cool as a half-up-do!

That looks so much better than my first fishtail. Keep practicing and you'll get the hang of it in no time :)

Nice fishtail!! :D It looks so much thicker than what my hair would be capable of in a half-up. /envy.

This site is just the best for hair confidence. Thank you all for your kind words and compliments! Especially for the comments about my hair looking thick---lately there seems to be quite a few people posting about ponytail circumference and I was starting to get a thickness inferiority complex. The ironic thing is that when my hair is fully down it's pretty thick-feeling and fluffy, but it only feels long when those shorter layers are tied back. Perhaps one day I'll know what it's like to feel both.

DanielleRenae: very pretty braid! I like how thin each section is, that must have taken forever.

Thank you, OleanderTime. It did take forever, which is why I never wear fishtails anymore.
