Does using a clarifying shampoo undo the effects of oil? I'm about to use the John Frieda oil (coconut, mango and jojoba), but think it's also time for clarifying...

Thanks :)

Is this a commercial product by John Frieda? What are the actual ingredients? Are you using it before you shampoo or after?

Different oils have different properties. For example, coconut oil can penetrate the hair shaft, preventing protein loss while washing, so it would be a good oil to use before washing. Jojoba sits on top of the hair cuticle, forming a hydrophobic layer around the shaft, which prevents moisture loss (and moisture entry). Most John Frieda products I've seen make liberal use of silicones, which act similarly to jojoba oil, coating the hair and locking moisture in and out, but many of them require strong detergents to remove, should they build up.
