Heavenly Locks

I know we've talked about how to wear hair underneath a motorcycle helmet before but this question is a little different.
The way a riding helmet fits (equestrian) leaves room for a braid or a bun at the back. When at shows you either pin it or cover the bun with a net bow. By the time I get home to the US and back to my horses, my hair will be a foot longer than it is now (woot!) and I want to think ahead.

What I'm asking about is just for schooling. Working in a barn gets SO much of the fine particles of dust settling in your hair. It's gross because it's a combo of dirt, hay and horse poop. Bleh! If I could get away with my hair just being sweaty that would be much better.
What kind of covering could I wear while working around the barn and then be able to wear my helmet over to keep my hair more protected?
My helmet is this type -

I prefer not to wear a braid because it swings and rubs the hair or ends up thumping me in the back. When my hair was shorter a pony nub was the best! Something like this could work if it were spandex/soft material and had a sort of pouch or something for my bun...

Any ideas?
