View Full Version : Pictures of your hair-growth inspiration?

I sort of need some encouragement right now. I hate those moods where I get frustrated with my appearance :( So: does anyone use a picture or idea for inspiration to keep growing your hair? Occasionally I look at my childhood pictures, where my hair was APL, at least! Show me your inspiration!

My "inspiration" is a girl at school with roughly the same hair type and colour as me, so I don't have a picture of her to post :p

Hope you find some great inspiration through this thread!

I've found my inspiration here!
So many beautiful, long, shiny and healthy hair, so many gorgeous hairstyles and hairtoys...that's all I need when I get frustrated with my hair- the hope that, with proper care, having gorgeous hair is possible, not only on TV commercials, but in real life!

This was one of my inspirations:

I have a whole section on my Photobucket page dedicated to hair inspiration. I keep only the old photographs though since all the modern ones are here on this site. :)

I always wanted long hair, and I'm not entirely sure why. I always had long hair as a child and never have had hair shorter than my shoulders. My inspiration is how much I remember loving my hair being classic length.
I'm growing to tailbone at the minute, and I'll see where I go from there!
LittleOrca, that photo is amazing!

I often look at the pictures of a girl named Svartfylgia, search on that name on google and you will find her myspace page. I love her hair! She is so beautiful and has gorgeous black, thick hair :)

I'm not sure if this is what you're after, exactly, but one of my hair-growth inspirations is actually a fictional character:

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0152229000.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

My username, Cimorene, is one of the main characters in the Enchanted Forest Chronicles, a series of books by Patricia C. Wrede. The books describe how long Cimorene's hair is, and the different ways she wears it -- braided, in a crown on her head, etc. I read these books when I was really young, and I always thought it would be so cool to have hair long enough to wear on top of my head like a crown! :blushing:

And then of course there's always:

Different members' pics provide inspiration for me, particularly those with a similar hair type and colour. I also like looking back at my early pics and seeing how much my hair's grown.

I also look at old photographs (or modern ones) online for inspiration. I have a section of my album for that. :) There are a couple of LHC members that really inspire me too!

I ALSO have a couple photos of me with short or pyramid hair that keep me from EVER cutting again!! :scared:

I recently found my inspiration here on LHC. I don't know her name but she has midback-waist length hair that is cut in a U shape. It is also brown and straight which is the color and texture of my hair. Anyhoo, she has my dream hair!

Hello!

I never write almost
I am from Madrid and my English is very bad, because of it I do not write.

My inspiration to leave my hair to grow is undoubtedly Ruslana Korshunova. She was a Slavonic model. They say that she committed suicide in her flat of New York. I do not believe that it was a suicide...

It seems to me that she was the woman most beautiful of the world...

As a princess, as Rapunzel...

My inspiration is a mixture between remembering the long hair I used to have, visiting sites like this one and browsing for inspiring photos on the internet. But paintings as well, for example:

Ok, I'm going to go ahead and chip into my own thread :)

http://www.goldensilents.com/stars/jobyna_ralston.jpg ....silent movie star Jobyna Ralston

http://www.historycooperative.org/journals/jah/93.3/images/feeley_fig01b.jpg ...another silent star, Mary Pickford

and finally....Lillian Gish (I think she's gorgeous!) http://www.silentsaregolden.com/photos/lilliangish.jpg

Haha what is it with me and the silent movie stars? Most of them later went on to bob their hair, but....they're so pretty!

Of course all of the ladies here provide wonderful inspiration to keep up the good work on my own hair :D

There's also a book that I read as a young teenager (I WISH I could remember the name of it) that described the main character (who was, of course, a princess) as having a braid all the way down to the backs of her knees. That image has always stuck in my head, and I've always wanted it for myself!

My own personal inspirations (other than 70's Cher and Crystal Gayle...lol) are Karen Marie over at Stressless Tresses (she cut it all off a couple of years ago in a moment of insanity, and is currently growing it back, yay!) and two of our very own: LadyLongLocks aka JJJLongHair4U2C and Eresh. Whenever I feel frustrated I just go and visit their pages or flip through their profile albums and remember why I want it so long. :o) Honorable mentions to Dementia and Marajade. We're all around the same length, but those gals have the kind of shine I dream of and remind me to not torture my hair so much.

At the end of the film "blow", with johnny depp, i remember there being a scene where he's in prison, and his daughter (i think) comes to visit him.
Shes blond, in a white dress and the camera sweeps around the back and you see her waist-length hair tapered into a V-shape and it made my little heart sing. its blowing in the wind, all shiny, and yeah.

found a pic! still of a youtube video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUTz8itJWII if you're interested.

I have always likes books more than pictures when it comes to inspiration. My favorite is probably Cathy Dollanganger from the Flowers in the Attic books *blushes* haha. If you google her, there is a picure of the four "doll" children, cathy has her long blonde hair that I am jealous of!

I think that my long-hair dreams were fueled by YA fiction, too... I particularly remember the Betsy-Tacy high school books (by Maud Hart Lovelace) where Tacy's red hair, worn in coronet braids, was described--I finally reached the point where I can wrap my (henna red!) hair all the way around my head and I felt, when I got there, that I'd reached some sort of lifelong goal...

Another set of fictional hair-heroines that I remember distinctly were in Robin McKinley's The Blue Sword (http://www.robinmckinley.com/books/#sword) and The Hero and the Crown (http://www.robinmckinley.com/books/#hero). In the former, Harry (a girl) learns swordsmanship while stuffing her waist-length hair into a helmet as she trains (That's interesting, considering that I've stuffed my own waist-length hair into a helmet in the desert--no swords, though!). In the latter, Aerin's hip-length curling red hair is described in a scene that sticks with me to this day.

(Odd... all the stories that I wrote as a kid featured princesses with knee-length hair, usually red. I wonder if that's where I've been aiming?)

I can't find it anywhere online (with the same cover art), but I have a copy of Emily of New Moon that inspired me as a child... Also there was one of those dreadful-quality cartoons called Saber Rider & the Star Sheriffs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saber_Rider_and_the_Star_Sheriffs), where one of the characters, April, had long blonde knee-length anime hair with fairytale ends...

As an adult, I guess Helena Bonham-Carter in lots of things, and all those fabbo pictures by John William Waterhouse (http://www.jwwaterhouse.com/) - especially Shakespearean ones like Miranda (http://www.jwwaterhouse.com/view.cfm?recordid=45). Degas' pastels of women bathing... Spring (Apple Blossoms) (http://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/ladylever/collections/spring.asp) by John Everett Millais... Botticelli probably came in there somewhere, and a couple of portraits by Cranach.

It's funny that someone mentioned sailor mars as their inspiration. I used to watch sailor moon every day and always thought sailor pluto had the coolest hair ever. my biggest inspiration now is any woman who actually took the time to grow it so long. One more foot of hair and I'll be on cloud 9.

Loving all of these pictures! Very inspirational!

I liked Donna's hair from That 70's Show and I really love the long hairdos of silent movie stars like Mary Pickford. The "Gibson Girl" look and reading a lot of novels about ladies from historical times really made me appreciate the care, look and feel of long hair. :p

Mine is Giselle from Disney's Enchanted (my avatar). I just love her hair. But I glean a lot of inspiration from LHC members. I go through albums like crazy. I think I become inspired more my hair styles rather than length. I think about all the styles I'll be doing some day...

http://www.rapunzelsdelight.com/ is one of my favorite sites, full of vintage photos of long hair and a great collection of long hair information.

A combination of two of my favourite things!
How delightful :)

Alanis Morrisette's hair was amazing back in the 90s. She cut it off & has since grown it out but never as long as she had it. :( It was soooooo long & i have always wanted my hair like hers.

This (http://www.pjlynchgallery.com/books/melisande3.html) isn't really an inspiration to me but I thought some of you might like it. It's from a storybook we had when I was a kid. I was snotty about illustration so this was a favorite.

Melisande, what a great book and I love the illustrations, I admired her hair alot as a kid.

Ooh, I loved the Melisande book. The illustrations were amazing! :)
Most of my hair inspiration comes from here, you guys! I'll have to find pictures of other inspirations though. :)

I can't put pictures in the thread. I think inspiration has to come within. What inspires me may not inspire you.

That's so true, what's inspirational is very personal.
Jennie is a great inspiration to me, not just because she har lovely hair, but mostly because It's so nice to have a longhaired friend to grow your hair along side.
I haven't had that before, someone who gets why long hair so great!

We help trim each others hair, I trust her to cut just what we agreed on and to be careful while handling my hair.
And we have alot of fun experimenting with different treatments and updos.

I have known her for just a year, but it feel like we known each other for much longer than that and I hope we will be friends for a long time.

She is the best! :cheese:

My beautiful mother is my inspiration. She had the longest and silkiest raven hair that was paired with bangs. Mine is almost identical to her look... except her hair was straight. God I miss her. Unfortunately, I don't have many pictures of her.

From Reddit, this girl's hair!

Definitely a dream length for me, and I'm so close!

I just came across this YT video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgWvbqOhzgU

And the first girl's hair... wowowow. And it's not even what I consider to be thick hair either, which makes me happy :) It looks like mine does if I don't fluff it up. Makes me want to grow so much longer, sigh... But I know I probably wouldn't be able to handle it, considering I can't really put my hair up much (overly sensitive scalp aches and also don't like the look on myself lol).

This is a stock image I often see used to sell hair products, but I think she is so pretty and the style is adorable. I look forward to my natural locs being long enough for the half-up half-down style.

Apologies for this double post but I found the original person in this photo. Despite being used as if it were a public domain stock image, it's actually stolen from her Instagram here. (https://www.instagram.com/p/Blg13URAlKr/) I'm going to flag my own post to see if a mod would like to edit both posts together.

Oh wow, she and her hair are stunning! I can see why the stock image sites stole her (sadly)

I saw an image of a man very much like this one but he wasn't wearing a shirt--I was already growing my hair out at the time but it inspired me to go for Long Long.
