And props to the LHC.
Hair type me, ye friendly bunch. :D

2a? 2b, or is that wishful thinking?
For a long time, I thought I had straight, unruly hair that was permanently dry. I would look at my sister's silky, shiny straight hair and wonder why I could never achieve that same texture
or quality. Finding the LHC made me realise that my hair isn't straight or unruly; it's wavy. It has straighter days, and wavier days, but even when straight, there are waves lurking. They're not always very defined, but they're there.
Yeehaw! I've stopped fighting my texture, and my hair is looking much better for it, with the exception of the dreaded frizz in the front, which is permanently there. At the end of the day, I like the frizz. I learned to embrace the mad scientist look a long time ago; it has its appeal.
I have countless things to thank you for. Finding A'kin shampoo and conditioner, coconut oil, hair sticks (enablers! ;)), putting an end to blowfrying, self-trims, cloth pantyliners! :p I've also learned that combs are evil and rip my hair out. Sticking to my trusted Body Shop Quill Brush.
In terms of routine: All my life I've been a (once a) weekly washer, and that's not about to change. There's not much else that I can think of. I oil occasionally.

I do, however, have a problem with there not being an 'edit' function in place for newbies. What is my poor OCD to do about that nasty line break?
Apologies for the double post, but this was inevitable.:puppy:

Not sure on the typing of your hair, but am sure that it is beautiful and so THICK! You don't need to envy your sister's hair, that's for sure. Can you tell me about that shampoo you use? And cloth pantyliners? Whoa, for a moment, I thought you were talking about putting them on your hair! :D

You have absolutely beautiful hair! I really love how thick and wavy it is! As for hair type, I would say 2b and iii (but you will have to measure that for yourself).

You're all very lovely and overwhelmingly kind! :blossom: I will update my info. shortly.
Thank you so much for the positive comments - much appreciated. I have measured it, and it fell into the iii category, but after a recent shed I've been scared to bring out that tape measure. It probably looks thicker than it is (poofy).
"2b or not 2b"... whatever it is I love it ;)
:kitten: Nice avatar ;) 2b it is!

Thank you. My hair feels incredibly pampered. This is going to get to my head (pun intended).
:D I wouldn't put myself past it if it was a tried and tested LHC method. :eyebrows:
Regarding the shampoo, it appears to be called Alchemy in places, and is listed as such here: http://archive.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=34009

I use the lavender shampoo and avocado conditioner. The shampoo lathers well and is simply a godsend. After going back to commercial shampoo a while during the holidays, my hair had slip like never before (too much of it), and my scalp had sores, so I'm back to using A'kin. Oh, diluted, I should add. I was almost ready to give up on natural brands after a big disaster with Aubrey Organics, but this turned the tides. Big thumbs up.

Your hair is absolutely STUNNING!
I remember having a dream about 45 years ago (yes, that long) when my mother was still routinely whacking all my hair off into a pixie - that my hair instantaneously grew out and looked just like yours! Alas, it was only a dream - I simply don't have this hair type or the lovely color. I'd almost forgotten that dream til I saw your post - brings back a lovely memory :)

If she does, and gets those results I will run to get my stash now. After all, dh will just think it is one more weird thing I read about on the internet. :o
I am sorry I can't help with the hair typing, I am rubbish at it- but I couldn't not say how amazing your hair is.
That is what my hair looks like in my wildest dreams. :D

Welcome and have fun here!

Thank you everyone! My hair is the product of your advice.
Mind you, the picture doesn't reflect how prone to dryness it is. This was taken when it was freshly washed and conditioned. Steady decline from there onwards. :p I kid, it's actually more conditioned on the days leading up to a wash, but loses a lot of wave definition.
Oh my, that's sweet of you :flower: All hair types and colours are lovely in their own right, certainly based on what I've seen here. In my dreams, I'm a fierce redhead! :p I do sometimes find this hair colour a tad dull and unimaginative, and have considered dyeing it either black (see below) or auburn, but I know neither will work with my skin tone or feel like me...and your kind compliments are convincing me I ought to keep it as is.
Have you been growing it a long time?
Since 2007. I used a semipermanent black dye in late 2006, which wreaked havoc on my already dry tresses. Instead of leaving it on for the advised 5 minutes, I left it on for an entire half hour. Still, my hair was glistening to start with - probably due to the silicone-heavy conditioner that came with the dye - but the condition gradually worsened in the coming months as the dye washed out. All that silicone must have suffocated it. I couldn't stand my hair anymore, to the point of considering going bald. Luckily my near and dear ones convinced me to keep it. This is the one and only time I've dyed my hair.
When I say keep it, I don't mean length. I took the scissors to it mid-07. After hacking it off to jaw length and having my mother even it up (pan over head style) I decided to grow again.
Come APL/BSL and the oh so lovely pyramid-head stage, I decide I need a fresh new look, off it goes once more in 2008, and this time at the hairdresser's. I come out with heavily razored, again fried hair. Argh. No more hair salon visits for me! I've never come out of the salon happy. It didn't take me a long time to discover that I am a longhair deep down.
I've been growing it ever since, gradually getting rid of the damaged layers, and have succeded in doing so with small trims every couple of months. Growing seems to be taking ages, due in part to my height. TBL is my current goal, and hopefully classic at some point, if possible. Actually, make that Na'vi length. :p
You see, back then I didn't think it was possible to grow to these lengths, so I decided to look into tips on how to do it. That's how I found The Long Hair Community (January '09). :grouphug:
