I have extremely oily hair and I read that a boar bristle brush helps distribute the oil down the length, away from the scalp. The problem is, whenever I use one, the brush only makes my hair look ever greasier. My hair practically sticks to my scalp and the strands stick together. Does anyone else have the same problem as I do?

I have the same issue. I think it's just because it makes the oil more apparent. My hair looks so much better since I started using a BBB, so I just wash more often; every other day instead of every three days. That seems to help.

Yep. I just brush it through a little while before I take a shower, and when I wash my hair I focus on the scalp.

I have to wash my hair every day though haha. Actually, I am wondering if it has anything to do with me taking two showers a day. I only shampoo and condition in the morning, but it isn't covered in the shower before bed. Does anyone think this might be the cause of the exess oil?

Your hair will replace oil that's been washed away. The more you wash it, the more oil you will produce.

I've actually tried to wash it only once a week for several weeks, but that does not help my hair at all.

Have you tried gradually changing the frequency with which you wash your hair? I had to slowly transition from washing everyday to washing every 2-3 days, but it has helped significantly. Also, it helps if you keep your hands and brushes and combs away from your scalp as much as possible.

I have the same problem and ended up not using my BBB even though it was expensive and supposed to pamper my hair. I wash twice a week with conditioner only and do fine with my tangle teezer...it detangles well and seems to distribute the oils nicely but doesn't give me greasy scalp or split ends.

I have had this problem before. It is true the more you wash it the more your hair will replace the oils. Heres what worked for me. My specialist suggested I switch to suave natruals because the brand uses less harss ingrediance and is easily found in each store. She also informed me that people with oily hair actaully have to condition their hair less often due to the hairs oil replacement rate.

I use to wash my hair twice a day as well. The first night I washed my scalp with suave, then used the madora cream rinse on my ends, combed with marble wide toothed comb and let air dry before going to bed. The first day it was hard but I didnt use any plactic brushes, blow dryers, straighteners, hair spray or any of the other stuff traditional stylists try to say we need. Then each morning I bent over at the waist and use the boar bristle brush with my hair flipped down brushing from my scalp to my ends.

Then I took baby steps in streching the time between my next washing by doing only this rountine each night for about a week, no other washing or getting my hair wet. The next week instead of doing the rountine every night I switched to every other night and so on. Until I was only washing my hair once a week.

Before I knew it my hair was not greasy as often and it didnt require as much washing.

I've had this problem around my scalp, but not my ends.

Do you use a sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate shampoo? I've found that the more often I wash my hair with a harsh shampoo, the more oil it produced. It really does help in the long run to wean your hair off very frequent washings. You just have to convince your hair that it already has plenty of oil by not trying to constantly wash it off.

See,I don't use sls anymore or conditioners with silicones, and I only wash with shampoo once a day- it just gets wet twice. I tried everything from co to wo for all last summer and nothing seemed to work. I'm just about getting ready to give up! Thanks for all the advice and support everyone!

I cannot use my bbb on my scalp. Even if my hair is clean, it makes it look oily. I even wash my brush frequently to avoid this, to no avail. I use it from the ears down to distribute the oils I use on my ends.
