I'm very interested in trying Aveda Clove Conditioner. I found it on ebay, amazon, and here (http://www.aveda.com/templates/products2/spp.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY10523&PRODUCT_ID=PROD5806).

however, none of the sites list the ingredients (it only mentions it contains cloves and coffee). Does anyone know the ingredients? Also, if you have used this conditioner please let me know what you think. It's a bit pricey but I'm always hoping for darker hair at least something to help darken my lightened ends (they get light in the summer).

Thanks in advance for responses. :)

* Edited to say: I am also interested in trying Aveda Black Malva Color Conditioner as it says it's for brunette's or black hairs. Anyone tried it? If so, what do you think?

I LOVED the version Sally's sold a couple years ago. I was really upset that they stopped making it. It's a very good conditioner and smelled awesome. Since it was before I really cared what ingredients were in my conditioner, I don't remember if it has cones or not. I don't remember it really helping to darken my hair either. Although my hair is pretty dark already so it may have just made it shinier or kinda brought out the natural highlights. Although I really liked this conditioner, I personally wouldn't pay Aveda prices. Not that they aren't good I'm just cheap. I really like the Aura knockoff brand at Sally's and I'll just hold out and hope they bring it back.

Thanks for the reply, I just realized I was mentioned Aura products instead of Aveda so I edited the post. Anyhow, I didn't realize Sally's had an Aveda clove conditioner generic by Aura. I love the Aura conditioners like Rosemary Mint and Cherry Almond Bark so am sure I would have liked the Aveda knockoff too. Do you remember what it was called? I hear what you mean about not wanting to pay Aveda prices! I wonder if the clove Aveda conditioner would be sold at any of my local drugstores?

Thanks,
Sissy

Hi! I've tried it. The only thing it darkens is the shower and hands(it rinsed off). I did not see a difference at all. I love Aveda's products like their Dry Rememdy line, Damage Remedy line, and their Brillant line. However, I never cared for their Color Enhancing lines. What you can do is see if you can return them if you do not like them. That way you can try them and then if they do not work for you, you will get a refund. Good luck! :)

I used to use the Aveda Clove back in college (long time ago) when I worked in an Aveda salon and could get a discount. My hair tends to go orange-y in the sun or if damaged and I did see some darkening on those lighter strands with the product. However it gets all over everything; the walls, stains the washclothes, towels etc. Not worth the trouble of cleaning up after it imo.

I just wanted to update in case anyone is interested in trying this product. I ended up ordering the Aveda Clove and Aveda Black Malva conditioner and have had good success with them both. They do give hair nice slip. They're not overly moisturizing but they do darken the hair... I specifically noticed it on my ends, which have the tendency to become naturally bleached or lightened. They have darkened right up now, which is great! It gives me a much more even tone. I'm not sure how long the results will last though as I haven't bee using it enough with long enough stretches in between. Being it's a bit pricey, I hope I'll be able to get away with just using it once or twice a month to refresh length and make it shiny and to darken my ends. I found the clove to slightly darken but the Black Malva has been great for my hair color as it gave it noticeably darker results on the ends, which I love. I did post a review of the products here on LHC reviews. I can say the Aveda works way better than the Brilliant Brunette line I tried in the past, the ingredients are more natural too I think.

A word of caution, the products are not met to be used on grey or white hair. Also, they do temporarily stain the shower and your hands, however if you wear latex gloves it won't be an issue. Also, the staining easily washes off your hands and shower with soap.

Yes, I tried the Clove, but later switched to Black Malva when I wanted something a bit darker/cooler toned. I love it. Using it 2-3 times a week has allowed me to stop using any other forms of color (I had been trapped in a 6-week Natural Instincts cycle), so my hair is much healthier now. It does tend to stain fingernails, so I bought a large box of cheap disposable salon gloves to use when I apply the Black Malva. Again, I love it. Love it, love it. Hope they never stop making it. It is pricey, but a little goes a long way. The only downside is that it does leave my ends slightly dry, but that is easily solved -- I rinse the Black Malva out of my hair, then apply a bit of my regular condiitoner to the ends and let it sit for just a mintue or so before I rinse that out.

The Black Malva discourages red/brassy tones in darker shades, and the Clove enhances warm tones in medium brown hair.

This is the ingredient list for the Black Malva:
Ingredients
Aqueous (Water, Purified) Extracts: Black Malva Extract, Camellia Oleifera Extract, Sweet Almond Extract, Wild Cherry Bark Extract, Organically Grown Aloe Barbadensis Extract, Dipalmitoylethyl Hydroxyethylmonium Methosulfate, Stearyl Alcohol, Dimethicone Copolyol, Glycerin, Behenamidopropyl Ethyldimonium Ethosulfate, Disteryldimonium Chloride, Babassu (Orbignya Oleifera) Oil, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Hydrolyzed Wheat Starch, Tocopheryl Acetate, Oryzanol, Stearyldimonium Hydroxypropyl Hydrolzed Wheat Protein, Glyceryl Stearate Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Dicaprylyl Ether, Cetyl Alcohol, Cetrimonium Chloride, Cyclomethicone, Cetyl Hydroxyethylcellulose, Sodium Citrate, Citric Acid, Fragrance, Diazolidinyl Urea, Annatto (Colorant), Caramel (Colorant), Basic Brown 17 (Colorant), Basic Yellow 57 (Colorant), Basic Blue 99 (Colorant), Basic Red 76 (Colorant)

And this is the ingredient list for the Clove:

on more thing I'm noticing about these conditioners is that they are making my hair seem wavier. I'm wondering if this is because they're not moisturizing enough for my hair as my hair usually is straighter in the winter time. Still I'm loving the color effect and i washed with regular conditioners tonight and the coloring that was added in a previous conditioning the other night didn't fade at all.

It makes me sad that the clove is for darker / brunettes... I'd like to enhance my henna-red but I love love love the scent of clove in my hair. :(

Aveda has one or two red shades of color-enhancing conditioners......perhaps you might like those scents?

Sissy: By any chance are you still using these conditioners?

If so, are the results still good?

How often do you have to use them in order to keep the results?

You mentioned that it didn't cover gray/white? Do you mean you have some and you noticed it didn't cover them? Or just that it's not the purpose of the product?

My hair naturally lightens during summers too and I don't like that two tone look I get, even though it's virgin hair. I wonder if I could just use this product on the bottom part of my hair (cost savings more than anything else)?

TIA! :blossom:

Sissy:

One more question.... I forgot to ask last time...

Your hair in your avatar is very dark brown or black, is that your real color, or is that just a dark picture?

I'm debating whether I should get the black or the dark brown version of this product. My hair is a medium brown....

TIA! :flower:
