....a very heavy oiling? I've drenched my hair in coconut oil and then massaged a bit of castor oil on my scalp. I was thinking by default I would shampoo in the morning but started wondering if CO would do the job.

If you leave it on long enough, scrub well, and rinse(A LOT!); I'd say it should! I was CO only for a while and I always got all my heavy oilings out(coconut mostly).

I have heard that CO removes heavy oil more effectively than shampoo. You might want to be a bit more liberal with the condish and let it sit a bit longer to be sure you get it all.

Yup. I've done it many times. That's all I use. Just make sure you use lots of it and leave it in long enough. And massage it in well.

It works for me. I load my hair with a cheap, non cone conditioner, bag and turbie it, and let it sit on my hair a couple hours. I massage well when rinsing, condition again and I have clean soft hair. The important thing for me is leaving it on a long time.

Yes, it can. As others have said, you want to use plenty of conditioner, scrub well, give it time to soak, and rinse well. I find that rinsing works better if I comb with a very wide tooth comb (such as a Conair Shower Comb) while rinsing. If your hair doesn't feel clean after rinsing, then add more conditioner and repeat.

I don't bag it and let is sit for that long, but sometimes I will put it in and put my hair up for 1/2 hour to an hour. It works really well after a heavy oiling.

That´s what I´ve heard, too. But I´ve never tried it. But I think it should work.

Nice to know ! Probably didn't leave it long enough last time, my hair was still quite oily after CO wash ... I'll try this next time (:

Yes, CO washing removes oil much more effectively than shampooing (in my experience!). You need to use loads of conditioner, and it seems to work best to put handfuls straight on dry oiled hair, massage in, then leave on for about five minutes in a claw clip. I then add warm water, and really lather it up and massage it all over, before rinsing out. Works like a charm for me!

I haven't a clue why, but yeah, it does remove oils TONS better.
I used to be fond of heavy olive oilings--really, REALLY heavy. We're talking multiple palm fulls. I don't leave my CO conditioenr on for very long, but I do use two conditioners, and it took it out just fine. :D I could wash, rinse, and repeat with shampoo and not get it out. And got stripped hair in the process, even though it was still oily.
