View Full Version : Will EVOO go rancid on my hair?

I'll be staying at home for a few days (not feeling well & sore throat) and we have this very high quality EVOO that my uncle gave us. I was wondering if i could make a VERY deep treatment by leaving lots of EVOO on my hair for extended periods of time. (my hair's extra dry and loves getting oiled up)

Has anyone tried it? Does EVOO go rancid? If it does, when? Will i have bugs running around my head like those non-LHCers suggest? :D

Several people have oil in their hair for a couple of days and are fine with that, so no, I don't think it will go rancid. Most likely, your hair will smell a lot like Olive oil, but that's all.
Have you tried EVOO before? Some people find it drying and it can be quite hard to shampoo it out again.

And of course: Feel better soon, a sore throat is not funny..... :(

I tried it on my scalp; it worked wonders on my dandruff back then :D (i only left it on for an hour though)

I wouldn't mind not rinsing it all out, as i can get away with oily hair with a french braid tucked under. But that drying thing got me worried :/ I might try a little bit of it as leave-in and see what happens.

And thank you, yes, it's no fun at all :(

Nope. Unless you left it in your hair for months, I doubt you'll ever experience a problem with it going rancid (unless of course you douse your hair in already-rancid oil).

Oil away, girl :)

You'll be fine. Go ahead and soak your hair in oil. I'm one who gets good results with EVOO. I CO it out.

I get good results from EVOO, too, but I don't like the smell even when it's not rancid, so I stick to coconut oil for hair.
