Because henna isn't messy enough, come gather round ye old campfire of hendigo!

share recipes, results, ideas, etc.

Right now I'm looking to go dark and cool. Thoughts on 1/2 indigo, 1/4 henna/amla, and 1/4 cassia?

I used henna for hairs directions for henna and then immediately using indigo and finally got proper results. Dark roots that fade to lighter ends like real hair does.

Isn't there already a hendigo thread?

ETA: http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=969&highlight=henndigo+thread I thought there was a much larger one, but maybe it was from the old board?

I know that this is a really old thread, but I didn't want to start a new one and confuse things...

I have used henna extensively through the years, but have never used indigo powder until today. I have used LUSH henna that had indigo in it, which produced lovely results but washed out pretty quickly, leaving me with red hair.

I have been growing out my silvers for a while and am not happy with the mousy color that I'm ending up with. It doesn't fit my self image, which is really important to me right now since I'm making a lot of major life changes.

So, I've decided to hendigo in an attempt to create chocolate brown hair.

I mixed my henna this morning:
Jamila henna
warm water
coconut oil
aloe juice
lemon juice
peppermint, lavender and rosemary EO

I will mix the indigo with hot water and a little salt separately 30 minutes before I'm ready to blend it with the henna. I plan to leave the hendigo on my hair for five hours to give the indigo a chance to really permeate my hair.

Oh, yes, my hendigo will be roughly 50/50 henna/indigo. (100g henna/90g indigo)

Neoma, we do have another more recent henndigo thread here (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=21272). It's called 'show me your henndigoed hair', but people talk about their mixes and processes there, too. :) Also, I've never seen anyone add coconut oil to their mix, that's interesting! Is that just to make it more conditioning?

Thank you, Calypso! I will move over there!

I always add coconut oil (and usually cocoa butter, but I forgot today) to my henna to make it more moisturizing. Also, I find that it makes application smoother. :flower:

That's a great idea, I might try that next time!
