Order of coloring and conditioning?

I'm doing a friend's hair on Friday, and I'm hoping to give her a real salon experience :) We're doing highlights and a deep conditioning, and she's learning about oils and such. I was thinking that we should do the color first, and then a deep conditioning left to sink in with hot towels, but I wanted to verify that I shouldn't condition first. Also, if she's going to test out some oils, shouldn't we do a deep oiling before we color? It's been a while since I've done the whole routine, so I could appreciate some fresh advice.
