This is the closest I can find to showing my natural color. This is after growing out some Burgandy Hennalucent. My ends are red but you can see mostly a light brown mixed with grey. But what color brown? It was taken outside no flash and it was very cloudy and overcast.

Inside post henna and oil (after a night of sleeping in a satin bonnet)

There's a big difference and my color is a lot richer and darkner now. My hair color is naturally drab. It's becoming lighter and more faded as it greys.

Looks like light brown to me, and now it's more one the darker side of burgundy.

It looks like a light-to-mid-range ash brown to me.

Bingo! Thank you. I knew it had a name better the drab or mousy brown. :eyebrows: It keeps getting lighter as I get older. My hair used to be very dark brown when I was a teen.

I prefer to call it "cool" brown. That is what it says on the dye boxes anyways :D

Yes...it looks like medium ash brown. My colour is the same, but the lower lengths of my hair are medium golden brown from normal exposure to the sun. If you allow your natural hair colour to grow out, it will end up with a beautiful golden hew. The roots will always be ashy because it is new growth.

ETA: I meant to say 'light ash brown'.

I've never had long hair that was all my natural color since it turned brown. I had my first cut at 10 but it was still dark blonde/golden brown. All my hair was chopped off to 2" all around and stayed that short until I was about 12 or 13. It started to grow out but I discovered Sun-In, straight peroxide, bleach, flat irons, curling irons, relaxers and hair dye. I never stopped dyeing until a few years ago when I decided to see if I wanted to go grey. I didn't color for a full year but I didn't have a lot of growth due to breakage (too much heat, chemical color and stress), major hairloss, and overall poor health. That's when I started looking into more natural ways to strengthen my hair. I started using hennalucent and cut off the damaged ends. I've been using henna since Oct of this year and take a lot of vitamins. I guess it'll be a long time before I go natural color. Probably when I have more grey than med. ash brown. I'll probably then switch to just cassia.
