And how do I use it? I'm not sure what to even call it, and I don't have a picture. It looks like a long , thin U, if that makes any sense. I assume you're supposed to stick it in your hair, but I don't see how it could work :confused:

Also, I've been trying a lot of those clips you put onto your hair, and then drive a stick through, but I don't know how to use them right. I always get a big poof ball of hair on top of my head, or below it. :(

Should my hair be braided for something like that? I'm lost. Maybe I'm just trying to tackle the more advanced stuff too soon? (How advanced can stuffing a stick in your hair be? apparently very lol)

Is it perhaps a hair fork?

Sounds like a very basic hair fork to me. My hair is just a bit longer than yours, and the easiest way for me to use a for is to do a tight braid and bun it, then stick the fork in and kind of 'weave' it through the braid and scalp hair to secure it. If your hair isn't long enough to do a full circle (a la cinnabun) you can kind of flip it up and loop the end under like this :

Hair slide (http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=37221455&ref=sr_gallery_5&&ga_search_query=hair+slide&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_page=2&includes[]=tags&includes[]=title)?

Hairpins (http://i46.tinypic.com/mm6dqr.jpg)? (from Plainly Dressed (http://plainlydressed.com/veils-accessories.html))

Edit: with both of these, my method of getting 'em in is the same movement. Example, like a hairstick-- bun. Poke hairstick (or fork) through outer portion of bun, then face the point outwards to catch hair, then turn so the point turns inwards, and weave through the style, and back out the other side of the style when appropriate.

depends if it is the size of a bobby pin (like a slim U shaped wire)

or bigger and made of wood or plastic or bone or......etc.

Definitely sounds like a hair fork, and if smaller, a hair pin (used for securing certain kinds of "smaller" hairstyles and many other things. Hair forks are pretty versatile and can be used in many different styles, like buns, half up-dos, etc. I like them. :)

Is this what you mean?Yes, thanks to you and everyone else. What a noob question to ask, right? I've never really worn my hair up besides in a regular claw. So I'm trying something new.
