On the 29th of June 2007 I made my first rope braid, it looked like this:

Now I have made another one, which I have rolled up to a bun after this picture was taken (that was a NO WAY back then):

The top one was taken from dead behind, the second on taken from the top down as I was holding the camera myself, but these two are the first pictures next to each other that TRULY show my progress!

Wow! You've nearly doubled the number of braid bumps (yes, I counted. 4 in the first one, 7 in the second). That's amazing!

Yeah, and by the looks I did them equally tightly. The only difference is that the second one is freshly washed damp hair.

The tassel on the latter is shorter though, so you should subtract one bump ;)

I suppose that's true. Now you have 1 1/2 times as many bumps :)

that is really good growth for one year's time...keep up whatever you are doing cause it must be working
where can you find instructions for a rope braid? I can do a regular three strand braid and just learned how to french braid. I seem to prefer braids over buns except for church.

Beautiful! Lots of growth and I'm very envious of your rope braid.

I should put these in the articles section.. I know.

You can find instructions here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94eruaEMzVM

I just put the thing in a bun afterward. :)

Very nice.
I'm going to have to try that braid again. Every time I try it, it un-twists all on it's own.

That is because you are likely winding the two big strands in the same direction as you twisted them. Try winding them the opposite way :)

Aha! I never thought of it that way!
