Mine are 750mg and you can take up to 4 a day. It's a powder filled capsule thing. Don't ever break the capsule open and try mixing the powder into a drink to see if it's nice. It's not.

I usually take about two a day, but that's until I run out. I'm not convinced it did much for me really.

I take 1000 in the morn and 1000 at night. I started with just 1000 in the morning for a few weeks first and then added the one at night. Mine were 1000 mg caps though. If you have 500, I would do 500 in the morn and 500 at night. I did get some wacky purging with it but kept going with it and it got better. Drink lots of water. I know there are people that take 5000 a day.

that was my next question what are/can be some side affects of taking it...and how would you know if you were taking to much?

It may give you some gas...or you may get a rash. If you have problems, then back off of how much you are taking. If you have problems sleeping then don't take it at night. It may give you a headache. I didn't get one. I sound like a Viagra commercial...

If it's working for you ...some people take more, some less. It's not heavily studied. From what I read, your body is supposed to use what it needs and get rid of the rest.

If I were you, I'd start out with 1,000 mg daily and see how you feel on that. It can cause pains in joints or other funny symptoms. The weird thing thing is, if you have any joint problems, you'll have to stay on it or get stiff. Some other people have weirder symptoms...nightmares etc...so start with a little and work your way upward to a comfortable level. And if you have a sulphur allergy, stay away from it.

Not on sale, that was the price...Dollar Store, I couldnt believe it, they had biotin too (too low of dosage for me though to make it a good deal)

is it a water saluable pill, like the biotin?

I do have joint problems, are you saying if/when I go off it (msm) it will make my joints worse?

Has anyone seen any difference in their hair or body?

when I took it regularly I saw an inch of growth a month, which for me was good (better than my usual 1/2 inch per month).

You can get just the powder and mix it with water or juice. It tastes bad. I would start with what you have...its a smaller dose. A lot of people take it for arthritis.
I notice that my nails are growing uber fast and my skin is softer. I haven't paid much attention to my hair...if you can believe that.

I take Flexamin for joint pain and it has 1600 mg of MSM in it. I've noticed a big difference with that and my joints don't hurt anymore. They'd probably go back to hurting like before if I stopped taking it.

One inch of growth per month is miraculous! If I had that speedy growth I would grow my hair to my goal length and than trim it regularly to have the healthiest ends on earth (well...not really, but it's a nice thought!).

I hate to ask what's probably a dumb question, but what is MSM?

Igor

MSM (methyl-sulfonyl-methane)
MSM is promoted as a natural source of sulphur by the supplement and health food industry, suggesting that people are deficient in sulphur intake. However, protein in the diet is an abundant source of sulphur, which is contained in the amino acids methionine and cysteine. The efficacy of MSM has been questioned and clinical research on the medical use of the chemical is limited to a few pilot studies that have suggested beneficial effects. The biochemical effects of supplemental methylsulfonylmethane are poorly understood. Some researchers have suggested that MSM has anti-inflammatory effects. The published clinical trials of MSM did not report any serious side-effects of treatment, but there are no peer-reviewed data on the effects of long-term use in humans
People on longhair forums have reported that it helps to decrease hair fall out. It is claimed that MSM does this by making the growth stage of the hair longer and the shedding cycle shorter. The growth faze is genetically determined though but it is possible that it makes the shedding cycle shorter. It is true that sulphur is a main component in hair's structure so taking it as a supplement can’t hurt.
You may take up to 2000mg/day.
Warnings: Some people have linked MSM to depression! You should be aware of this when taking this supplement.

My bottle says to take it four times a day and each pill is 1000mg. Might be a bit excessive.....good thing I forget to take it all four times!

No, it did not take three months to notice it... maybe 1 and a half to two, but def. not three. I should mention I was also taking biotin and fish oils and a multi. I am now also taking Evening primrose oil... it's just I've been off my vitamin regime for a bit now... one of my new years goals is to get back onto it as I really could see a good difference.

I am taking 500mg per day at the moment - I did 1500mg for a while but stopped because I had difficulty concentrating at work. Does anyone else have trouble concentrating when you take MSM? My job is very concentration-intensive (software development) so maybe I am just more sensitive to it than usual.

500 mg seems good now ... my hair is growing fast and I can still concentrate.

I just bought myself some and mine is the MSM Methylsulfonylmethane 1000 mg. It says to take (1) capsule two to three times daily. I am just starting out so I am just taking one capsule a day so I can see how my body reacts
