View Full Version : What have you learned this year?

JamieRose
December 14th, 2009, 03:51 PM
Both Hair related and otherwise? I'll start. :)

1. It IS possible to not heat style- ever, really- and still have my hair look super nice.

2. Henna is amazing. A-MA-ZING!

3. I can cut my own hair and save a crap load of money- and length!

And non-hair related:

4. I will always find a way to make time for art. (and should!!!)

5. I feel SO much better when I don't eat grains.

6. I should question everything- especially conventional wisdom.

7. I've learned (though am still learning) to never take anything for granted. Every single moment is a gift, and I am so lucky to have those in my life that are close to me.

Ah, reflection is always a good thing. :)

Lessons learned in the realm of hair:
1. I'm really good at misplacing my favorite hair stick... sadly, I think it may be gone for good this time.
2. I can't always count on at least 1/2" of growth per month.
3. 'Poo bars rock!

Other newfound knowledge:
4. How to get along with a roommate whose views on just about everything are very, very different than my own.
5. Steel corporations should NOT be allowed to run environmental high schools.
6. Nothing is black and white... I rediscover this every year.

For hair:

- That with a little scrunching and tlc, my hair can have nice waves/curls without using heat or ridiculous amounts of hairspray.

- Seconding on the henna :)

- To be more aware of whats actually in a product and to read the ingredient list and know what you're using. Now i do this with everything, not just hair stuff.

Non hair related:

- Remembering everything good thing in my life. Its too easy to get stressed and upset and lose sight of all of your blessings.

- Learnt how to change a car tyre. In the pouring rain. While on the way to my very first GP placement. And that car grease gets everywhere, especially when you're wearing smart clothes and have to see patients in those clothes.

- How to make sushi rolls. Its suprisingly easy.

Hair:

- I don't need straighteners to make my hair look good.
- I don't need to wash once every other day and have clean hair!
- Hair dye does not agree with my hair at all
- After growing out said dye for about 8 months, I do actually like my natural hair colour!

Everything else:

- Not be so hard on myself. Let other's be my own worst critic, I've got to live myself, not them!

OMG i have learned so much this year about hair care! I'll just list a few things that i can think of at the moment.

My hair can & will grow! (After 15 years struggling to get anywhere).

My hair can look quite good without straightening it.

Aloe Vera is a great hairspray alternative. In fact i may never buy hairspray again.

Shampoo is not necessary & CO washing works great.

Cones - only cones i knew about previously were the ones you smoked, lol.

Adding a little oil to dry hair helps immensely.

You don't have to get the ends trimmed every 6-8 weeks like hairdressers would like you to believe.

Other people S&D too! I thought i was the only person with this obsession, lol.

Hair-related:

- How to use coconut oil correctly - and why it is amazing. :)
- Patience. (Still learning.) It will grow at its own pace, give it time.
- Self-trim means I actually like my hair after it's cut; no awkward hair-dresser small talk, no similarly awkward refusal of product/blowdryer/straightener, and no cost!
- My overdraft is not for hair toys alone. Rent and food comes first! ... most of the time. :p

Non-hair related:

- Moving house is a giant pain in the behind.
- My main motivation for getting a job is actually so I can, 1) get my own place, 2) 'own' cats. :o
- In a year, I will be worrying about completely different things; and that worry doesn't help.
