Hi there
Just need some general help on maintaining my hair.
I've looked around and would say it's 3a (or 3b) Coarse and iii
It is very dry, and feels like straw.
I need advice about how to rehydrate it because it isn't in good condition.
I shampoo and condition every other day and let it dry naturally
Any help is appreciated
Thanks
(I've been growing my hair for a couple of years, it's hard to tell it's length due to the frizziness/curliness but I guess it is mid back length when straight)

Right off the top of my head, sounds like you need moisture treatments. You can buy them or mix your own. I will often saturate my hair with whatever conditioner I have on hand (avoiding the scalp) and let it marinate while I'm relaxing in a warm bath. Then I shampoo my scalp with diluted shampoo and rinse everything out. It leaves my hair well moisturized and silky. Oh, and I usually follow with a modest application of conditioner that I leave in (whatever I have), then a small scrape of coconut oil warmed between palms and finger-combed through.
Good luck! Welcome and have fun.

Hi! Welcome to LHC! Sounds like you need to add moisture. I also struggle with dry hair from years of highlighting and coloring. You can buy hair reconstructor treatment packets at Sally Beauty Supply to help and you have come to the right place, you will find lots of advise here! Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions, adding moisture does sound like the way forward for now :)

If you have frizz, this may mean you have a fair amount of body to outright curl. Look into CO washing as an option. LHC has it somewhere here and there's a book, Curly Girl by Lorraine Massey. ETA: I have been informed in the past that LHC's CO (Condition Only) washing is different from Curly Girl's method. I used to be entirely against CO washing, but have since changed my opinion since I began to understand the results and this author's points. I am not familiar with LHC's method specifically, only the book's method -- or rather, this author's method.
And oiling for your hair type may be insufficient. You may need to look into Shea Butter, or even, Cholesterol, if you're a super coily curl.
If using shampoo, you may do better with what's known as low- or no-poo shampoo, that is sans sodium lauryl sulfates, or SLS. Deva is the line for Lorraine Massey. You can also simply dilute your shampoo, apply to only the top of head, scalp, let it run a bit through the length, and condition only the length.
Also winter, think humidifier. I know humidity MAY create frizz for you, but this isn't humidity on that level.
I don't know if you can yet see the Recipe board, but if you can, think about looking at Fox' Shea Butter Recipe.
My friend is a super coiled gal, straight out of the hair follicle, and she does a tiny bit of diluted shampoo at the top of the head, and uses cholesterol on length. I also recommended to her that she coat her hair in her conditioner of choice, and using a wide tooth comb, keep the coating on the hair, and while in the shower, keep dipping and re-coating a VERY wide tooth comb and putting that through hair length for detangling while in the shower using the shower water to help her, then rinse. ETA: She now never detangles her locks once the hair is air dried.
NO rubbing the hair. Just pat or squeeze hair in a towel with no movement. Don't luff the cuticle!!!
IF you're a curly girl at all, look into PLOPPING. You might like that.
And no brushing hair that's curly. Loosens locked coils and frizzes hair even more.
You may not need to detangle once dry.
Shea or oil while still damp. You may have to work on the hair while damp.

I'd go for oil treatments, I love that someone mentioned Sally, the people there could really help, as they can see your hair primarily.
