I've been donig this bun for a few days now, it's extremly secure and doesn't involve twisting and is held with a single hairstick.
I came up with it after trying out Spidermom's bun, but I don't know if it is a new bun or somethig else I haven't found yet in the Article's section.
Here is a pic of it:

It's a bit messy there, because I put up wet hair, but it acutally seems to work best with damp hair, makes it stay even better.
Instructions:
-hold hair as if wanting to make a pony
-put the tail over your hand as if you would to create a loop and let hair hand down again behinf the back of your hand
-wrap the tail around the loop base
-split the loop and then use the two section as a slide while putting a stick through the hairslides to hold everything.
It takes less than 30 sec. to put my hair up like this. i hope the instructions where clear, English isn't my mothertongue and I find it sometimes hard to describe how to hold your hands, etc....

From the describtion it sounds like a variation of the Inside-Out-Bun. Will try it :D

It sounds a bit like an inside out bun, also called a nautical bun, I think? Although I think an inside out bun usually starts with a twist at the base of the pony tail.
It's pretty cool, whatever it is :)

It sounds like the Split Bun to me. I think Bluebell does it a lot, if I remember correctly. And there may well be instructions in the Articles by Florenonite as well. I'll need to go and double check that!
But yes, supercomfy bun isn't it :) Looks great in your picture!

Neither the Nautilus Bun nor the Inside Out Bun involve any splitting.
You reinvented the Split Bun (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=159). There's even another version (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=138) involving an elastic.
Being on the German boards, you may have heard of the "Schlaufendutt"? That's exactly what you discovered.

Sounds like a split bun to me - or at least I call them split buns :P It's my favorite bun - I have done it every single day since starting the "Wear hair up for x amount of time"-challenge.
You get some very nice bun waves with it too.
I will include a picture in just a second :P
Edit:
Well, someone was a tad quicker than me to come up with the answer - but yeah, it's a split bun :)

OK, now I'm confused. Can someone explain the difference between a nautilus bun and a split bun? I've looked at instructions for both, and the seem identical to me.

Bene, the way I do them is:
you start the same way for both, so you make a loop and twist remaining hair round the base.
With the Nautilus you then fold the loop over and around the base (as far round as possible, since the loop comes from the centre it can't go full circle). The hairstick is applied basically in the same way as with a circlet, where your loop is the circlet.
With the Split Bun, you split the loop and fold both halves in opposite directions. The hairstick goes through the centre of a half loop on one end, straight through the base of the bun and out the centre of the other half loop on the other side.
I hope that makes sense .... :D

Thanks guys! now I can proudly say that I can do a Split bun! I'm not on a German board so I've never heard of a Schlaufendutt but I think the title is a good description of the look.
It really is comfy, very quikc to make and doesn't pull or anything. Normally a Cinnamon was my to-go bun but for the last few weeks I've always been doing this as it is much more hair-friendly and does look a bit more interesting. and now I even have name for it!:cheese:

Definitely the Split Bun. I've had on and off difficulties getting that style to work on myself, but my hair goes through bouts of being uncooperative. Nicely done!
