View Full Version : My little rope braid bun

I got tired of trying that scare crow thing, it didn't want to be consistent in looks. I hate that sort of thing, since I need to know things will work, and not just 10% of the time.

Twice in a row now I made a rope braid bun, and the results were similar the second time.

Here it is.. disregard the frizz, been messing about with my hair all afternoon!

I'll see if I can make a video out of it, if I manage, I will edit and put in the link to it :)

Thanks! I had a good chuckle when making the video (uploading now) and being stuck and all in my hair and twisting ways

Oooh, pretty! It looks like a flower, or if you turn your head slightly to the left, like a five-point star with rounded edges! I like it!

I don't know if that would work on my hair or not, it's about the same length as yours. Hmmmm.

Thanks!

You can always try.. if you can make a regular braid and coil it around one complete turn and a bit, then you are good to go, I think.

You have a real talent at making pretty updos, Eadwine! And your buns always turn out nice and big :) Keep up the good work :flowers:

Dumb question: "scare crow thing" - What??! This rope braid is lovely on you. I can do the rope braid, but never get the bun to look anything like this.

It always looks like an "ordinary" bun, for some reason the intricate "oping" disappears.... :o(

I'm going to watch your video and maybe it will help me do my own correctly. Thanks for posting!

 Scare crow thing.. umm.. where is it.. *searches*

correct updo of this thing thread (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=3711)

Tip for the intricate: roll the braid the other way in the end ;)

Thanks you all!

Yeah it does seem longer, doesn't it? I am not measuring or taking another length picture till we hit mid June though ;)

Wow! That looks amazing! I love it!

When I first saw the picture, I thought "how does she do that, it must take a long time". Then I watched your video, and saw that it only takes a few minutes to achieve such a beautiful style.

Thank you for sharing this, I will try this when my hair grows .

Your rope bun looks awesome, eadwine! Fantastic job. I love the shine.

Gorgeous! Mine always winds up looking less like a flower and more like a square, with hair going this way and that in some sort of pattern I can never really understand. But yours is so shiny and rounded, I love it!

And Gumball.. yours is also VERY pretty!

I hope I can duplicate how this one in particular came out though :)

I love your rope braid. You dont feel scared that your hair might slip while you're reaching the end?It always happens with me. But yours looks very pretty and secure. Even the bun is cute.

Your bun is lovely, and thanks for the video! You've inspired me to try this one myself.

Your hair is looking much longer than your siggy pic suggests! :flower:

As you can see on the video, I slow down a little and twist one by one instead of both when I reach the end bits. It is quite secure and not tight, unless I put a scroo in it for extra sturdiness, then it is tight again. :)

Do show off your own attempts! :) And yeah, I have noticed that about the length too.. I find it intriguing.

Mine is not nearly as nice as yours! It's a bit challenged, I'm afraid.

Sorry it's so dark.

I had to secure it with a hair-tie at the base; otherwise it wound up looking like a mutated figure eight, somehow. Weird.

Pretty though!!
What happens if you roll it up to a bun in the other direction? Might look better that way, who knows :)

Saranne772 , can't wait to see yours!

Thank you so much, eadwine! I'm sure without a doubt you'll be able to do it again. Once you start riding that bike it's hard to entirely forget how. ;)

Aww thank you! I practice a lot though :) I just managed to make it into a bun with a fork:

I've watched your video, as well as a video by another longhair, and I can't figure out how to make a rope braid. I made one once upon a time, but now they just unravel before I even secure them. And you can't make a rope braid bun without a rope braid!

What am I doing wrong?

eadwine
April 29th, 2008, 11:05 AM
You are twisting the two sections around each other in the wrong direction. Try doing it the other way and see what happens :)

You are most welcome. I should redo that one video though, with me twisting correctly and crossing the base first and all that
