ok so i cant find anything on here about braid covers or braid cases or whatever people call them..

ok so here is my problem.. my sleep buns arent protective enough anymore.. my hair isnt getting any longer becuase i have to keep trimming off splits.. i heard that braids can be better at night.. i slept with a braid last night but its all fuzzy in the morning.. i want to protect the braid.. i saw on one of my favorite animes (yeah im a dork) that one of the characters was wearing a cover over her long braided hair while she slept.. so i try to find a link.. i cant..

i think i could probably make one but i was wanting more info on the cover things first..

oh i forgot to mention i cant wear sleep bonnets because i toss and turn so much that they end up on the floor halfway through the night.. oh and satin pillowcases make me break out (even silk ones).. ugh and i went to such trouble to sew myself a silk satin pillowcase..

so
1/ have you all ever heard of braid cover thingys?
2/ is there a shop that sells them online?
3/ is there a sewing pattern online?
4/ are they supposed to be lined?
5/ can they be pretty enough to wear out of the house?
6/ how do you pull the hair through the tube thing?

Maybe call it a "braid sleeve." I haven't seen them for sale though I do see that various kinds of folk wrap their braids in strips of leather or fabric.

Good luck!

I've got a lycra 3 tube tail bag for horses that I'm planning on using when my hair is longer...

You might try using the idea of a leg of panty hose with the toe cut out, as mentioned in other threads lately. Not so much pretty for wearing around the house, but should work for sleeping. I would also think it would be quite easy to sew up something if you sew at all...just a straight tube. Seems like you could roll it up, like a donut, then slip the hair through. My thoughts are to secure with a scrunchy at the "top", then unroll to the "tip". You could secure with more scrunchies down the length if needed. Let us know what you decide to do and how it works for you.

Could you just use a leg off of a pair of tights?

I've read recommendations (here, of course, where else? ;)) to use pantyhose. Cut off the length you need, and secure it around your braid or ponytail with elastics/scrunchies.

the blue line is the dent that happens in that same exact place every time i braid.. its from me pulling my hair over my shoulder when it gets too hard behind my back.. the orange line is where my hair ends are.. the rest below is just braided lycra.

this is a close up of the fabric.. my mom left it in the house when she moved out.. its swim suit material..

this is my very first try getting it into my hair..
