I tried searching for help with this but really couldn't find what I was looking for so if there is a link please forgive me and lead me in that direction.
My hair is between collarbone and shoulder. I love wearing the sock bun as it's very protective, holds well, and most important...I can do it at this length. My problem is what to do with the extra tail of hair. I know those with long hair can wrap it around and pin it or place the sock at the end and roll it up so the ends are hidden. I can't do either of these yet. Currently I just use a scrunchie but really don't like this look and would love to be able to decorate with my sticks or fork to make it look more like a real bun.
I also find that when I get the bun set with my rubberband it sticks out at a funky angle. Any suggestions? How do you other shorties get your bun so nice?

lol i had the same problem when i first started here.. hmmm maybe you could experiment with silk scarves tied around it.. plus this might provide extra protection..

Thanks for the links but that is what I was referring to above... I've tried that and love the way it looks on her but my hair is still to short :( Either that or I'm just retarded and can't do it....could be a little of both lol :silly:

I have the same problem, but I have a solution as well!
After I've made and secured the sock bun, I wrap something else over the finishing elastic-- either a fabric loop-type headband, doubled, or a pretty scarf wrapped a few times around and tied. Then I go around in a circular motion with my fingers, tucking all the loose ends under the cloth. It hides all the ends, and adds a pretty decoration that can be changed to match your outfit or mood!

Mine sometimes look like that too, I either get it right first time or try something else!

I will have to try a scarf or the doubled headband is a good idea too. My only hesitation is that it's completely different from my dress style. I am VERY casual,, jeans and t-shirt gal here so I don't know if the scarf idea would look weird without the right outfit. I guess I should step out of my comfort zone sometime right?
Thanks for the ideas, keep them coming!!
ETA: I could try a bandana!! I bet that would be cute!!!

Sorry for high-jacking, but how on Earth does she do that? I've spent half an hour trying now, I can't get past the beginning. The very first thing she does, spreading the hair over the sock and starting to roll it up - my hair pops right back out as soon as I move my hands to start rolling it up..

I have to roll my hair over the sock and tuck the hair in at the start. Usually I have to roll it on one side of the sock for the first turn, and then when the ends are secure on that side, I can spread it out around the whole sock.
