View Full Version : Box Dye to Lift Color?

My hair is naturally very dark. I have been hennaing for about a year and love it, but it doesn't show much on my very dark hair and goes more dark burgundy than anything. So I have this idea to get a box of conventional dye in a medium brown and use that to lift my color a few levels then henna over that (with BAQ of course).

IS this a terrible idea? My hair is in awesome shape right now (thank you LHC) and I don't want to damage my hair for what might not even be a very noticeable change. Ah why can we not appreciate that which we have! ;)

Has anyone done this with success or failure? Advise me wise hairacles.

It's hard enough to lighten hennaed hair with straight bleach (with bleach, it took me about 20-30 mintues of exposure to get any change in color). Box dyes tend to have weaker solutions, so it might not work, and I think it won't make enough difference to justify the damage.
