Just the other day I bought a bottle of cheap conditioner because I was out but I was also broke. I didn't bother to look at the ingredients because I figured I wouldn't like what I saw...but OMG. This is a frightening list. Not to mention, the conditioner actually smells pretty foul/strong as well:

Water (aqua), Dicetyldimoium Chloride, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Stearamidopropyl Dimethlyamine, Olea Europea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Amodimethicone, Propylene Glycol, Behenyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Hydroxyethyl Cetearamidopropyldimonium Chloride, Hair Keratin Amino Acids, Tocopheryl Acetate, Clycine Soja (soybean) oil, Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate, Citric Acid, Methylparaben Ceteareth-20, Fragrance (parfume) Linalool, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Salicylate, Hydroxycitronellal, Methyl lonone, Yellow 5 (C119140), Red 4 (C114700) Blue 1 (C142090)

It's by Palmer's - their Olive Oil formula with Vitamin E Replenishing Conditioner. (Extra Virgin Olive Oil for soft, silky hair - Vitamin enriched and made with certified organic olive oil)

Hmm... I think I'd rather not use any conditioner at all, than that one. It is a bit scary indeed!

It's all lubricants, humectants, emulsifiers, moisturizers, and then as you go down it's preservatives, which always run high on the risk assessment thingies, but the concentrations are very low and if you've been using another commercial product, chances are you've been using the same (or similar) preservatives.

I don't see much of a problem with it, honestly. It has 1 silicone in it, and I believe (don't quote me) that it's a pretty water-soluble one too.

Fatty alcohols, emulsifiers, a cone, some protein, oils, preservatives... sounds like regular ol' commercial conditioner to me. Doesn't sound like something I'd rush out to buy, but where's the scary?

Amodimethicone is a cone, Propylene Clycol can irritate the scalp and aggrevate hair loss and Methylparaben is very carciogenic. It seems like a regular conditioner, and unless you suffer from hair loss, dandruff or don't use cones, I wouldn't be afraid of it. Methylparaben is in the end of the ingredients list, and therefore I assume that it is present in a very low concentration. Nothing dangerous. :)

Looks like something I'd consider using, if it didn't have the protein in it. Propylene glycol is a great conditioner and makes conditioners nice and thick (Biolage Conditioning Balm, anyone?), amodimethicone is one cone my hair seems to like, and everything has preservatives which are a bit toxic because they need to be to keep stuff from growing in it.
