View Full Version : Celebrity hair redux...

OK, so y'all know I don't usually post or care about celebrity hair...or celebrities at all, really....but I just ran across a picture of Katharine McPhee and.....WHAT DID SHE DO??????? WHY???? WHY would such a stunning brunette ever even consider for a millisecond going cookie cutter bottle blonde?! I'm no fan, I don't think I've ever even heard her music, but I saw her picture on a magazine cover a while back and I do remember thinking, wow, she has great hair. Now--not so much! :(

I too cringed when I saw her new haircut. She was absolutely stunning before with gorgeous hair. The short blond hair washes her out.

Actually, it's not that bad. She looks kinda pretty. I think it'd look better with her original hair color though, maybe.

Uh oh, not a good look. I would kill for her "before" hair. *sigh*

She has a pretty face and looks pretty with whatever she'll do to her hair, but the short blond hair kind of killed her looks, she looked downright impressive with that rich brown thick mane. Is she an actress? Usually actresses have to alter their hair for a movie/series role.

That's a joke right? She looked stunning with her hair long.

I agree with that. The eyebrows kill anything that could be considered pretty about the short blonde cut. Interesting that she would do that though.

I think the blonde would look better if it was whiter, a little more punky. I loved her dark hair though.

When you're an actress, you have to change your look often to stay 'fresh'. I'm sure that do was for a new role or movie or such. Like Kristen Stewart--she had gorgeous hair, but cut it into a mullet and dyed it black for a movie she's in. Demi Moore shaved off her gorgeous long locks for GI Jane. Some actors really get into their characters and hair is expendable.

Thank God I'm not an actress! :D I'd never part with my locks.

Also, rememberr as well, many hollywood starlets wear extensions. After awhile, they need to be removed and my hair dresser said depending on where the extensions start, you have to cut above where the extension was, to remove damage.

Well, to be fair, that wasn't a very flattering picture of her blonde anyway. I googled and found some better ones. Sometimes people just want a change. I had never been blonde, so I went blonde last spring. It was fun, but dark hair is so much easier to keep shiny. Here are the pics.

I kind of agree. I don't think it's horrible, but I do like her before hair a bit better.

The blonde isn't light enough. A lighter platinum would look better I think. The blonde she has now is a little dull.

Due to the light used, the first two pictures are better, but the hair style does not suit her at all in my opinion.

Well, it is her hair. But her hair looks much prettier in the before picture. And she doesn't have the coloring that goes with blond hair.

I certainly think the links posted showed her in a more favorable light. She looks very attractive in those photos. The one in the first post was very unflattering. She is a beautiful woman.

If we are talking hair though, I infinitely prefer the first dark brown, flowing rich hair.

I know I was shocked to see her as a blonde! I always admired what a beautiful brunette she was....I don't think the blonde suits her well at all. I hope she realizes this and goes back to her natural color sometime soon!

Hmm interesting. I usually prefer natural make-up, long hair, etc etc. But going on the two pictures posted at the start of the thread ... I prefer her in the second shot :o
I've no idea who she is or what she does, but she looks really striking there - pretty eyes. Yes I agree the hair itself is bleugh, but I do think it frames her face nicely and makes her face pop.

I guess she was ready for a drastic change, but I thought her long, thick chocolate brown hair was so beautiful. Maybe since she has recently gotten married and had some emotional scars from her past, she wanted a totally different look. And if so, she sure succeeded because I find the new look unrecognizable!

I saw her this morning on television - she was performing on a float in the Macy's parade - and I freaked. Her hair before was amazing!

Okay yeah, it's not really that bad. She's very pretty, agreed, but I still prefer the dark long hair to fake-blonde.
I'd hate to be an actress too, like someone else said before.

Oh my!! ANOTHER celebrity hair redux.. I was very shocked yesterday while watching Medium

WHY did they had to cut the beautiful eldest daughter hair?? (Sofie Vassilieva) She had wavy shiny blond hair (almost to her waist last season) and they let her with a very common bob looking like.. Everyone else.

Please!!! Click the links (I don't want to hotlink) and share my pain :(

sally_neuf, they probably did that to signal that the character is getting older, becoming a teen?

The one from Medium--

Is that the same girl that played in My Sister's Keeper? If that's her, I absolutely loved her in that movie, and thought she was most stunning of all with no hair whatsoever. :)

Okay, I looked it up-- it IS her. It also explains the shorter hair, as she shaved her hair and eyebrows to play that role. Seriously, though, she was very beautiful without hair and eyebrows! Sounds strange to me too, to hear myself saying that... but she was.

Katharine McPhee has done some acting, but first acquired her notariety as a contestant on American Idol - she's subsequently had success as a solo artist. From the American Idol days, I'd say the original hair was probably all hers, since she seems to have had it since before she was "famous." But from one of those shots that someone posted, I'm wondering if the cut and color were for a movie role - ugh, I'm not sure I'd ever be desperate enough for a part to do that...:(

Honestly, I don't like how this thread is tearing her apart like that.
Her new haircut in my opinion looks a bit worse, but she's still a pretty
girl. She didn't "butcher" anything.

Who are we to mock other people's decisions? What if this cut made her
happy? What if it feels more like "her" than what we assume she'd look
"better" in?
Imposing on other's decisions, even as indirectly as this, just opens ourselves
up for criticism. Her "butchered" hair might as well be equal to OUR "disgusting,
stringy" hair in other people's eyes.

I understand this is the LHC, but I vote we focus more on growing our hair, not
minding the buisness of people who choose not to have it.

Hmmm, well, I think she looks much softer with the brown hair, but I think part of the difference is her make up too. The make up in her blonde picture is much more noticeable. She looks older. Overall, I like the brunette photo better.

I don't think anyone is "tearing her apart". I hope she loves her haircut, but that doesn't mean everyone else has to, resulting in many of the comments. Sure, we should all mind our own business and not care about what other people do, but that's not gonna happen.

Just this past summer, Sofia Vassilieva played a 16 year old luekemia patient in My Sister's Keeper. (Her character) does have longer hair in the flashbacks, its darker and about APL. Then, her cancer comes back and she needs to go into chemo, so to realistically portray that she(Sofia) had to have her head shaved. It was a very beautiful and tragic movie, I was in tears.

The short bob that Sofia has this season on Medium is the new fresh regrowth that she's had since having her head shaved for My Sister's Keeper.

Yeah, I noticed that when I was watching the Macy's parade yesterday. I was pretty surprised when the little label with her name showed up on the screen, I didn't recognize her at all. She looks cute with the new haircut, but I loved her old locks. I watched her music video (can't even remember what song anymore) single dozens of times, mostly for the hair. It was stunningly gorgeous. Now... eh, she's still pretty, but... I miss that glossy, chocolate brown length!

I think the blonde hair suits her really well, but she's used too much product, imo. Her fringe looks like it's full of glue. Her brown hair looked great as well :)

The blonde is a bit too fake for me. I seem to be very much of the opinion that natural is much better than fake, over the last few months, so that might be why. But her brown hair was STUNNING. The blonde is nice, but it doesn't look like it would feel nice and it doesn't look like to would move right... Natural FTW.

She's not the only one. Amy Lee cut her hair to about shoulder, as proven by the videos from her secret Evanescence concert in New York this month.

It shouldn't be a big deal, but it bugs me. xD;

Oh! I didn't know. Similar to what happened to natalie Portman, who, by the way looked gorgeus with her shaved head. (I think she would look great even if she had a chicken in her head)

I will be looking for that movie!! (Still, her locks were lovely *sobs*)

Well that's a bit hypocritical, considering the amount of threads we have on this site talking about people who criticized our hair. We can't go on consoling each other and saying "We are not here to decorate your world", and then turn around and do the same thing to someone who doesn't follow our ideas. Just because everyone does the same thing, doesn't make it right.

Just because she's a celebrity doesn't make her any less human. Nobody here, as far as I know, would appreciate a thread about how much they screwed up their hair. Realistically, she will never find this thread, but for the minuscule chance she does...it would hurt her feelings. It would hurt anyone's.

Hmmm, the before-picture looks a lot like chemically dyed hair with extentions to me, but perhaps I'm wrong. Anyway, I like her hair a lot more in the before pic, but if a fake blond, short bob makes her happy, that's okay. Then there is just one beautiful head of hair less in the world, making us LHC'ers even more unique *I know - I'm mean right now!*
