View Full Version : What length did you finally feel comfortable at?

I'm finding myself less anxious about gaining length now that I sit solidly at APL curly and BSL stretched. Shorter than that seemed too short and like it would never grow. I think being able to do more updos is the biggest thing that made me feel better.:cheese:

I was completely obsessed with hair growth until my ends reached somewhere between waist and hip. At that point I decided that it was long enough, and I'd be satisfied if that was the longest that it ever got. It's longer now; I'm still satisfied.

I am just before waist and am happy with it (although I can't wait to get to waist :D)... I think it is "up-do thing" too... I can finally do them. I think BSL would have been okay if I did not have layers......

Between hip and tailbone :)

I was on a mad mission to get to waist. After reaching my goal, I stayed there for a while and even gained an inch or two more before finally admitting to myself that it was too bothersome to look after (it's fine, thick, wavy and very very tangly, and takes a long time to dry). It was overwhelming to my small features, got in everything and I was no longer enjoying wearing it down.

I've settled at shortish BSL with layers and feel I have the best of both worlds at this length - it still feels long and looks long to the vast majority of people. I can still wear it up, and use all my many many decorative hair accessories, but I am happy to wear it down now.

I will probably feel comfortable at waist. Right now that is my goal. I like the look of a blunt hemline, and I just wish my layers would grow out.

Right now, I'm at that incredibly awkward, just-below-APL length (I have a tiny, strange, possibly even mutant body frame... *cough*). I'm eagerly anticipating that marvelous day when I finally reach BSL... and right now is probably the longest my hair has been since 2007. I know I'll probably stop obsessing with growing at waist length. :p

I'm quite happy with my hair, but I'd definitely be disappointed if it didn't grow any longer. I would love to get to classic.

Well, I'm just -at- shoulder now, and it finally feels as if I look (at least sometimes, when the curly hair gods love me) lie I'm not growing my hair out, and it lays right. Before, it felt too short, and I thought it made my face look awkward, and before my last few cuts, it looked thin on the bottom and ugh, it wasn't pleasant.

That sad, I still feel as if I'd look better with longer hair--at least BSL. I think once I reach there I'll be pleased with it, though I'll keep growing, simply because it'll look decent.

Nope, I totally did. But not dramatically--I had an inch or so trim.

But I'm talking about my length curly. Pulled straight I'm about APL again. I've never had curly hair that's truly past shoulder. :(

I felt comfortable somewhere around BSL. I could do most of the updos I wanted and it felt longish. BSL wasn't and isn't my final goal, but I stopped feeling like it would never be long.

Somewhere between waist and hip the second time I stopped obsessing and started accepting. I'd still like to reach tailbone, and I think I will. But, if I don't that's okay. I have long hair.

Right now I am Between hip and tb length and I love it its long and I can do stuff with it. Which will be even more fun when my hair toys arrive. I admit I am somewhat new to the boards and never really obsessed over my hair length just knew I liked it long and wanted it to stay that way. But now that i am at hip length i'm starting to feel like its getting long now. And its ausome.

I'm feeling good that my plaits are brushing my shoulders. It's been thirteen months now and I want to wait at least one more year until I say, "enough." My goal is waist, but I can be totally happy with full BSL or mid-back.

November 25th, 2009, 11:53 AM
At waist I felt like i finally had "long" hair but it was a great deal thinner than I would like. It's just at tailbone now, and it's thickened up nicely. So I am happy with it lengthwise, although I wish it was a bit shinier :)

I've made the journal from shoulders to lower back several times as an adult. I always started to get comfortable when I got past mid back. When I passed the bottom of bra strap it was even better. Now I don't think I'd be comfortable back at the length again. Waist to hip has been a good place for me. I've found that I don't mind changing it by a few inches so I can experience a former shorter but still long length again.

Right about... now.

I think I've stopped the "GROW DARN YOU!!!" and started with the "Oh, you want to hang out at this length for a while? Cool, whatever."

I'm at about waist-lengthh.

I'm actually comfortable at BSL so if my hair stops growing I'll be perfectly fine, but I want to be able to feel my hair down the length of my arm.

I'm not comfortable yet. I want all of my shorter layers to reach waist length, then I will cut a blunt hemlime. Then I will be comfortable. Yes, my longest layer is nearly waist, but since the rest of my hair is shorter, it doesn't feel right. I'm hoping to be there in a year or so.

I was first comfortable at waist. Shorter than that didn't feel long enough for me.

I haven't reached a too-long length, yet; I'm currently between tailbone and classic.

I've never been really anxious about it, but I suddenly found myself alarmingly pleased with my hair when it hit tailbone. Longer might be better, but anything from the top of the vertical smile on is a bonus.

So far, I still feel like "grow dammit grow". Every time I get to BSL over the last two years, I cut off a couple of inches and then I kick myself. Every day I wish my hair would grow, so I would have to say, that perhaps when I get to waist, then I might feel a sigh of relief.

I'm also in the frantic obsessing stage :(
I have dreams where it's long and nightmares about bad haircuts! Additionally, since I found out I was a wurly, my hair is considerably more voluminous but sadly not as long as it would be if it were slicked down and full of cones . . . *sigh*

I'm still waiting to feel that way. I think I will feel that way once I reach 30-31 inches because that will be waist on me. I consider hair to be "long" once it reaches waist

My hair actually was its most manageable at BSL, so I started enjoying it rather than fighting with it every morning. Then I realized it was almost at waist one day!

But now, I did the stupid thing and cut it off, so back to waiting to my comfortable length - BSL :o

RancheroTheBee
November 25th, 2009, 11:14 PM
Well, embarassingly enough, I think this is the longest my hair has been since I was about 13. I have no idea what my comfort zone is because all I know is that my hair is too short now (collarbone) and I don't know when I'll be quite satisfied.

November 26th, 2009, 04:31 AM
I'm still not at my 'happy length', partially because I have some damage and layers I want to chop. But now that it is BSL it feels more 'fitting' on me, so I am definitely growing more content with it. Though I am aiming for knee, I think anything longer than tailbone will feel comfortable. I am just one of those women whose personality demands princess hair

Im still waiting to get to a comfortable stage, still willing it to grow as fast as possible at the moment :)

I think that it will be at waist. If it gets longer than that then brilliant but waist would be fine with me.

Well, I started at pixie (really bleach damaged) in February and now have fairly healthy hair a little past chin that I can put up in a pony tail!! I am thrilled with this. This has been it's longest point since I shave off my BSL length hair in February 2008.

I will be very happy when I get to shoulder and can do more updos. Ultimately I think that after BSL I will be happy, but I would like to see it grow (eventually) to waist or maybe even hip.

November 26th, 2009, 06:54 AM
hmmm...even when my hair was at its longest, (generous BSL or high waist) it still didn't feel very long. When I look at pictures of it now, I wonder, "how could I have not felt long with that?! But I didn't. I tell myself I will feel long at BSL now, but I'm not sure. It's just beyond APL now and I say, it's onlystarting to get long.

Arctic
November 26th, 2009, 07:10 AM
I was satisfied at APL, it was good length for me. I was very obsessed from shoulder to APL, but I was a new member then, I think I would have been obsessed what ever the length I would have joined with ;) Now that I have cut back to shoulder I am not obsessed with it anymore (other than getting it healthy; and I sure would hope there would be a way to change those wiry hairs to normal!) and am just letting it do what it does and enjoy this length. And every length. I doubt I ever grow longer than MBL myself, but when I joined I wanted to grow to waist then to hip... always longer and longer

November 26th, 2009, 07:13 AM
My hair is almost TBL (which is originally my goal) and i'm still not satisfied. The reason is that it curls back to BSL sometimes, and all my efforts of growing it long disappear when it decides to extra curl.I love my curls but they take much of the length that i'm longing for. Sometimes the curls are mild and i can see how long it has grown and feel happy about it. I don't know when i will be satisfied, i think my real goal is TBL when curly, if i can ever achieve that!

I'm pretty sure I'll be very, very happy with the length once I'm between waist and hip. I've trimmed so much over the last two years and I'm getting really sick of hanging out around BSL. Oh well, I'll be there in another few months.

November 26th, 2009, 08:31 AM
It felt good a bit after hip. That's when it finally felt long. My starting length was shoulder or thereabouts, and between waist and hip I recall numerous impatient thoughts of the "why isn't it growing longer?" kind. Memories...

That does not mean that I am content with it now, very close to classic. Mid-thigh seems very appealing as of late... *wistful* I don't think there will be a precise moment in which I will say: "Yes, this is perfect, now I shall stop."

I was quite happy with waist length hair but wanted more. I got to mid thigh and cut back to a more manageable hip. :)

I know I feel much better appearance-wise when my hair is long enough to all hang down behind my shoulders so that you don't see the hemline.

Probably about tailbone. It's taken forever for me to get from tailbone to Classic, and I'm now beyond Classic (but not by much)... but I think I stopped really thinking about it at about tailbone.

I'm at APL at the moment and it is starting to feel "long", I think I'll feel more comfortable when it reaches "BSL" and can all of it can stay behind my shoulders. :)

It felt good a bit after hip. That's when it finally felt long.
Ditto. I'm comfortable with my length as it is now (close to tbl), but I hate my hemline and would like the length of my hair to thicken up some. Although my current goal is classic, I might maintain at tailbone for some time.

Hello All. I have always loved my hair long. I keep it a few inches past my shoulders. Kind of to the upper level of my back. I have also found that most men love girls with long hair.

Hugs.

Well, I can't say I felt "UNcomfortable" at any length (except when I had it unexpectedly short years ago, to chop out a colouring gone bad), but I feel my "natural state" is at waist length...which I'm at now...so I'm going for tailbone! LOL

Haven't reached a comfy length quite yet. I'm between BSL and waist, though if I cut out the last of my old layers I'd be back at BSL. :(

I can't wait until I reach a length where I stop thinking about it and obsessing! :o

I was happy at BSL, now that it's *almost* waist, it's getting too heavy and bothersome. I know I won't go any longer, and am planning to cut off the last few inches with dye still in them. I think I'll probably maintain somewhere between BSL and waist from now on.

I just wanted to get back to classic again in my lifetime, as I always used to love the feel of my hair on the back of my legs as a teenager. I did that twice in one year (this year), and it's still growing, AND I'm managing to maintain a modicum of thickness. I'm 3" away from my short-term User goal here, and extraordinarily happy. :cheese:

I don't think I'll feel super happy with my hair unti at least tailbone. It's the goal I've had for years and still haven't made it there. To be honest it makes me feel a bit sad sometimes because I have been trying to grow it for years! Sigh! But the true babying of my hair didn't start until this year so we will have to see if that makes a difference!

However I am definitely 'comfortable' with hip length hair, I sure wouldn't want it shorter :)

Last time I grew out my hair, I remember I stopped thinking about growth around BSL.

Up until then I would look at the back in the mirror all the time to see the length, I'd tilt my head back to feel it brush against my back lower down- that kind of thing. After that I stopped thinking about it so much, and when I would catch sight of my hair I'd always be surprised by how much it had grown.

I'm not at BSL again yet, but I feel OK about my hair. I'm not taking length-progress shots as often anymore, because I feel confident it's growing and I don't feel the need to micromanage it.

I felt comfortable halfway between waist and hip, but then I got a dreaded haircut that brought me back to BSL in March. Its back at waist now, but the shortest layer only went from chin length to APL. :(

Once I hit hip I'll be satisfied and wait for the layers to grow out, then slowly move on to classic. :cheese:

I've been hovering between BSL and waist for over a year. I get to waist and it's just too scraggly and difficult to manage, so I trim it back to BSL....and the cycle repeats.

I've accepted the fact that this might be my realistic limit, and I've grown to be pretty comfortable here.

November 30th, 2009, 06:25 PM
I think just a little past classic while wurly (not stretched out) will be where I feel comfortable. A year ago I was comfortable with anything that can be put up, but now it feels too short!

As a child I felt more "comfortable" once my hair got to my mid back. It is hard to explain, but long hair during a time period gave me a sense of security, around the time I was 10 years old. Then I cut it up to my chin when I was 14... not a good idea! :) I feel comfortable where I am now but I want to keep growing.

ericthegreat
November 30th, 2009, 08:20 PM
My "comfort" length keeps lengthening as my hair keeps growing longer! LOL

When I first started growing out my hair, I never considered anything longer than below the shoulders. But once I reached that milestone in just a year and a half, I figured why not grow longer? And so APL came and BSL came and waist length came and I realized, I really want to see my hair grow to full length terminal at least once in my life!

LorelaiAmethyst

I feel more comfortable as my hair reaches hip-length. My hair is pretty curly, so when it's shorter, it's frizzier and harder to manage. A friend trimmed my hair about a month ago to just a bit above waist length, and it feels too short. Anything past waist length is comfortable, but I'll be the most comfortable when it passes hip-length. :)

I think I'll start to feel comfortable at hip, although classic-mid thigh is the goal.

There's only about 3 inches on me between hip and tailbone, so I might maintain at tailbone for a while.

I thought waist was what I'd be most comfortable at, but the reality is I'd always pictured myself with hip length hair instead of waist, so waist just wasn't all that exciting. (Although it took FOREVER to get there....)
