View Full Version : Do you henna eyebrows?

For all the hennaheads -
Do you henna your eyebrows? If not, what techniques do you use to make your eyebrows match your hair?
I just did my first pure henna, and my hair is a vibrant reddish brown while my eyebrows remain their dull original medium brown. I'd like to match, but I am not sure about hennaing my eyebrows - I wouldn't want them to turn bright orangey red in the sun like my hair does sometimes. :)

Sometimes. It's really annoying and never seems to get them to actually match my hair. In my case, my eyebrows are much darker than my natural hair color...so dyeing darker isn't a big deal. Since I do full head applications fairly often in an attempt to get my scalp hair darker, doing my brows isn't necessary. Though it's occasionally nice to have them at least match a little (my brows have no red in them).
If you do henna your eyebrows, they will go through the same bright orange stages your hair does. The good news is the henna never seems to last that long, it's either the daily face washing, quicker shed and turnover rate for the hairs, or a combination of the two. I hennaed my brows several times about three months ago and they've been back to their normal color for at least a month and a half.
Maybe you could just grab an eyebrow pencil that's got a bit of a red tone to it?

I henna mine, because they're a pale blondish color and much lighter than my red hair. (Actually, henna is the best way for my eyebrows to look natural and still have a color!) I just smoosh some on with a gloved finger every month or so. For some reason, they don't seem to get as crazy bright as my head hair does, even though they're lighter. Might be because I don't cover the henna, I just let it dry on and rinse it off after an hour or so.

I did, because I have very thick brows that look darker than my natural hair color. They look really great with Henna, but the results only lasted a week. Still...I will likely redo, because it really looked flattering (and also eliminated my need for a brow pencil to fill in spots.)

I do henna mine also. And I redo about every week. I mix up a little and leave it on for 30 minutes at a time, so it doesn't get too light.

I smear henna on mine when I do my hair.

I don't. Naturally my hair is a titian/light auburn color, but I have black eyebrows. Henna darkens my hair a bit and brings it a bit closer to matching, but I've still been asked if I bleach my hair. Hennaing my eyebrows wouldn't do much except put orange stains on my face.
My old roommate used to henna hers. DH was not a fan of the look on her, and I doubt he'd care for it on me. Besides, it's not something I want to fuss with.

I do. I lighten them slightly because they are much darker than my natural hair color, and then henna them.
I use facial bleach to lighten them. Only 30 seconds on each brow, and then I smear the henna over them. I leave the henna to dry out because saran wrap on my eyebrows drives me nuts. After it dries out, I wash it off and evaluate. I'll repeat if the color is not close enough.
Since mine are so dark, they don't really turn orange. I'm not looking for them to match exactly, but rather pick up the same warm red tones in my hair. I tried an auburn eyebrow pencil, but it didn't work as well.

This is what I do: I put a tiny amount of my henndigo mix on my eyebrows and let them stay uncovered. This way I don't get much of the color, just the subtle change in tone, which is enough to get a better match with my hair color and more natural look. (unfortunately, it fades within two weeks)

I only henna my hair lightly because my hair is naturally dark auburn, but I like to brighten it occasionally with henna, but my eyebrows are naturally so dull, that I henna them. the unfortunate part is that it only lasts about a week. I read somewhere like commercial chemical dyes, you are not supposed to put henna on your brows either. But I figure that since people have been using it to color their hair, and decorate their skin since the time of ancients, and as long as you don't get it in your eyes, then it's safe to use on your eyebrows, I could be wrong though.

I don't henna my eyebrows since I use Henna to match my natural hair colour BUT my eyebrows have never matched, they are very dark. Since LHC I've found its quite common for redheads - and I've begun looking at red heads eyebrows everywhere I go! :D

I use facial hair bleach, and lighten mine just the tiniest bit, then I use an auburn pencil to fill them out.
(My hair is naturally a mousy red-brown, and any hint of peroixide makes it flame...)

Maybe I´ve been stupid or something, but I´ve never even thought about henna and eyebrows :) Must try it next time, it might look cute!

I don't have much eyebrow to henna, but my local MAC makeup ninja color-matched my hair and I have disturbingly natural-looking (color-wise, at least) eyebrows to doodle in every morning. Coworkers are often surprised to hear I dye at all, which I suppose means I win.

when I was a henna head I used to brush a little lip pencil in the my eyebrows to get them to match - its a temporary solution if you're not ready to henna them :)

My eyebrows are light but also sparse so they look even lighter. I naturally use a bit of brow pencil every day and it makes a world of difference.
I tried to henna them the day of a big family dinner with the boyfriend's fam. Well, I ended up with green blackheads around my eyebrows! Every single pore that had henna over top was green! And I even used some vaseline (old conventional dye trick) around the brows to avoid colour on my face. The skin around the brows were definitely greenish but that wasn't too bad. What was bad is that EVERY SINGLE PORE was filled with green stuff and it looked like green blackheads. I used Queen Helene Mint Julepe mask twice and steamed and squeezed and green stuff came out as if they were blackheads (but green).
In the end, the area was tender and sore as well as red so I needed some coverup (but before getting rid of the green blackheads, the pores showed through coverup!). The darker colour was really nice though and for about a week I had nice brows with no pencil. I think using Proactiv cleanser on and off made it fade faster :(
I'd love to do it again if I could avoid the green blackheads haha

I've done it a number of times since my eyebrows are getting sparse on the outer ends. A few tips:
~Wash your brows first - getting oils off helps uptake and prevents rapid fading.
~Apply thickly but then use a Q-tip to remove paste from the adjacent skin, leaving just the brow itself coated in paste. This avoids the scary clown look :)
~I cover the paste with a strip of Scotch tape - you don't have to stick it to the skin, just lay it on the paste to keep it moist. If your skin reacts to the tape, try cutting a small piece of a plastic bag and laying that on the paste.
~You may not need to leave the paste on your brows on for the same length of time you would leave it on your hair; I usually use henna for an hour and then indigo for 15-20 minutes; 30-35 minutes of indigo makes them nearly black.
~Don't try to do your lashes ... it's not a good idea to get mud in yer eye!

I have the thinnest eyebrows in the world and very fair. I put henna on my eyebrows (think Groucho Marx) and I slather on henna to my eye lashes. I let it on my eye lashes for as long as I can (it feels like sand). Normally I can only stand about 15 min. The eyebrows I leave on for 30 min. It takes some exfoliating to get red of the stains on the skin and the result is not spectacular but the tiny hairs look thicker.

When i used to henna, I just used an auburn eyebrow pencil to add some warm tones to my ashy medium-blond brows. It blended it in just enough, and was pretty low maintenance as far as I was concerned.
I tried henna-ing my brows once but mine did end up too orange. Never again.

The reddish eyebrow pencil seems to be working well. I might try hennaing them over break when there is no one to see my potentially orange results. :) It sounds like it wears off pretty quickly if I don't like how it turns out.

I henna my eyebrows. Even though I'm actually a natural redhead, my eyebrows have always been browner in color than my head hair, but still very light. So when I henna my grey roots I slap a little on my eyebrows, too. Doesn't make them really red, but changes them to a warmer color that I like. That way, at least, I don't have to use eyebrow pencils or anything.
Oh, and I cover my eyebrow henna with a little strip of scotch tape. Works better than saran wrap and it's really convenient!

i didn't dye my eyebrows, but I didn't make them mach either..
I think it's most wise to choose a colour that is not too far from the original, so it doesn't look un-naturaly if you doesn't dye your eyebrows.. :)

:hmm: How interesting. Aside from not liking the lighter color henna gave to my eyebrows, doing them was *such* a hassle. The saran wrap would slide and as my face warmed it would smear........ugh. And if I didn't use saran wrap they would dry into a crusty hard mass that was ridiculously difficult to rinse.
Perhaps I'll give it another go next hennaing. Now to only find the tape....

Has anyone with very dark brown eyebrows tried this? Did you notice a difference/any red tones?!

I henna my brows.
There is hair there, but they're naturally white. To get them to match the hair on my head, I first wash them and then put the same type of henna I've mixed up on my eyebrows and define/clean them up with a q-tip so only what I want to be dyed is dyed. Then I cover them with two pieces of saran-wrap and leave them for two hours (I keep henna on my head for 3-4 hours). I wash that off and then do some commercial dye: Just for Men in a brown color for about three minutes (same precise application with a q-tip, but no need to cover). This tones them down from a translucent orange and gives them more depth.

I have quite dark brown eyebrows, but they're thin and sparse so I like to keep them dyed. Haven't got that reddish color, it just deepens my natural color but unlike others, I keep the dye on for a pretty long time, without covering it. First time I got a warm tone, then just deeper brown.

Same... Except naturally my brows are medium/dark brown/blonde in the light/blondette weirdness. So yeah... Henna never dyes them as much as my hair, just gives a slight tint... And right after the skin under is super orange and it looks cool, like I put orange eyeshadow there xD but it quickly fades away. I don't cover my brows either, just put henna paste on.

My brows are dark, but light in bright light, sun, etc and slight tint shows when I'm in bright light outside or photos under the lamp but nothing when I'm inside.

Good to know! I want to try, I'm just scared they'll come out bright orange or something! How long roughly would say you leave the henna on? :)

I dye my hair bright red, planning to switch to henna.
I've never done my brows because I have to pencil them in daily anyway because they're so sparse. However, if it's easy to do with henna, i might consider it, especially since if they're too orange, I'll still probably pencil over them anyway.
