Has anyone else heard of this product? I read it online last night and hear that it is used for horses and is the original of the Mane n Tail shampoo and Conditioner and that Mane n Tail is a watered down version. This MTG is suppose to have some kind of sulfur in it and other things which can make the hair grow fast. I read on another hair website (forgot which one as I was just surfing the net) that people are very happy with this product and that they have noticed thicker hair that grows faster. Most buy this product online but it can be bought in any place that sells horse products and I am in the right area for it. I am considering trying it to see what it does but I am wondering if anyone else has tried it or heard of it.

I went and looked at this product today and it looked more like a fluid that had a yellow color that had some kind of gray stuff in it.

I've never used it on myself but we used it on horses that had rain rot or other fungal issues on their skin, which is where the sulphar comes in, I'm sure.

Do you know of it is ok to use on humans?

Actually, Mane and Tail is nothing like Shapleys MTG. Two different products altogether.

MTG stinks, no lie. I think most people relate it to smelling like a campfire. But yes, it is safe for human use, and it does often aid in hair growth. You could also make your own sulfur mixture, by buying sulfur powder and adding it to your choice of oils. There are also a few other formulations for sale that supposedly smell better.

I was told that the MTG had a bad smell. Do you know where to get sulfur powder and also do you know the names of the other formulations? Thanks.

You can get sulfur powder at the drugstore, on Amazon.com, and even at Walmart. Just add it to your favorite oil - emu is great for hair growth, I hear. Sulfur is the active ingredient in MTG.

Here's a link to the other product, called Boundless Tresses. I considered buying it, but I think I'm going to make my own instead.

Oh sure.
On other hair boards, it was quite a popular product.
And we used it bare handed when applying to horses because it was safe to do so.
But yes, it is stinky. :o

Isn't this the product one of the members of lhcf created? I remember it was quite popular over there.

I am definitely interested to try this, it seems like people had good results. The only thing is I have been trying so many different things for hair growth that I think I will wait until I run out of something or realize something really doesn't work until I try anything new :(

I have just applied this for the first time tonight and to say it smells is an understatement, its like smoked bacon from the olden days if that makes sense!

I will update with any progress!

I wonder if I could mix some sulphur with castor oil-- castor oil washes out easily, whereas other oils linger :hmm:

Seconding (third...fourthing?) the stinky warning. I'd also like to point out that I had some issues with it discoloring my horses very white tail. It took quite a bit of whitening shampoo to get it back to it's normal blinding brightness. Never used it on myself, seems like it would be very heavy on human hair. Plus, I think DH would boycott me due to the smell.

I began using Shapley's MTG a few days ago and was wondering if anyone had any further opinions regarding it?

The stink, oh my, the stink... But it feels really great on my scalp. Now that some of you have been using it for a while, what is your opinion on it? Is it worth it in the long term?

I found that the smell wasn't quite as bad as I was expecting....but I was also careful to use the smallest amount possible to cover my scalp. My problem with it is the heavy oil content -- I shampooed several times, and still had a heavy, oily feeling I didn't like. But I will admit that my scalp felt good for several days. I would use it more often if it weren't for the oil. Overall, I decided it wasn't worth it except for during times of occasional dry/itchy scalp troubles.
