Inside out Bun Help!!

Okay I have hear of an inside out bun. But do not know what one looks like or how to do it. Can someone help. If you have pictures of what it looks like I would really like to see. Also any instructions. Thank You Catladyintown

I have far less hair. I wrap my hair like I'm doing a combination of a cinnamon bun and a bee butt bun. The first few wraps, I lay the hair flat against my head, then I let the remaining few wraps go underneath. Then I take the innermost coil and stretch it out around the outermost coil. Then pin. I don't have any "during" pictures, but here's an "after."

As you can see, the innermost coil covers up the outmost coil completely and holds it in place, also pinning down the wraps underneath. It's a very secure bun.

That bun requires very long hair. There are a few other instructions on the old boards for an inside out bun that will work with much shorter hair, I know that at least birdiefu posted some. The archive seems to be down right now and I can't search it right now.

I do it by making a loop and the wrap the rest oft the hair around the base of the loop. Then I push the loop down to my scalp, while pushing the wrapped part out a bit to make the loop slide over it.

I consider an inside out bun to be a bee-butt bun with at least two full coils, with the outermost (first made) coil pulled open, and the lower coil(s) pushed up through its middle as the upper coil is pushed down and around.

Since the first made coil is the center of a cinnamon bun, but the outside of this bun, it is inside out.

I think it was Cortese who posted instructions for that bun, she called it "Gibraltar bun" because it holds like a rock :) A lot of buns are known under several names, it's a bit confusing sometimes.

My hair was already in an English braid, so I left it. I had a much easier time doing this with the braid than when I've tried it without in the past.

It stays pretty nicely with the fork I am wearing today - my aunt used to live in Hawaii, and bought it there, I believe she said it is made of a native wood. It sure is pretty, though, and I like it because it holds securely. Reminds me of some of the Baerreis forks I've seen, but the price was much nicer. Pic:

I have a fork just like that, but mine is lighter wood! I also got it in Hawaii and it holds great.

Good demonstration. The technique on shorter hair is just the same. You can just wrap as JJJ does it, or twist, twist, twist as cortese does.

That's it! [TM Lucy from Peanuts] It is such a pretty wood, and it does seem to glow when I have it all cleaned up and shiny. I've seen similar ones on ebay, but they are prohibitively expensive, and my aunt gave hers to me when she cut her hair short. I will make do with just one. :)

I'd never tried it braided before either, and it always ended up looking messy. Braiding works well for me as a training step when I'm learning certain 'dos. You don't have to worry about keeping it neat and twisted (or neat and untwisted, which is even harder for me), and it holds the stick better.

I just walked past a cart at the mall yesterday that was selling several different ones for about $17 each for 2 pronged forks. They may not be the most superb quality, but they are still gorgeous.

That's why I wanted to pick some up and sell them, because I can get them for so very cheap.

I wonder if the rules accomodate something like that if I don't profit, kind of like a GO or something?

Euphony, it takes less hair than you would think. It is just messier on shorter hair :lol:
