Help get rid of the brassiness

Hi all,

I need some advice :)

I'm trying to tone down the brassiness left in my hair after years of dying it - and recently letting it fade back to (almost) my natural colour.

I'm considering:
coffee
alma
sage

any other ideas? I'm not ready to committ to henna/indigo.

There's rinses you can get from the drugstore that tone down brassiness. I think coffee might just make your shade warmer, actually.

Buxus dioica, known also as Katam, gives a greyish "mousy" tinge to hair. It's often used along with cassia or henna to give a brownish colour. This website shows pictures with different colour results:

I'm not sure how permanent it is.

Blue or purple shampoos and conditioners like Clairol Shimmerlights reduce brassiness, too. :)

I have almost six inches of my own color...almost...I have done cassia with a small amt. of henna to make my grays golden. The rest of my hair is a brassy strawberry blonde from an old faded red chemical dye job.

I am seriously considering doing a buxus gloss on the bottom brassy part. I'd do a strand or hairball test first of course.

True it fades over time, but Sage and coffee and other darkening things usually only last until you next wash! Buxus sort of sounds like it would be akin to a healthier semi-permanent dye. Be sure to show us results if you decide to do this! :)
