View Full Version : How to trim your own hair

November 5th, 2009, 07:48 AM
I searched the forum on how to trim your own hair.

Something that I am very interested in due to my lack of trust in hair dressers.

...last time they cut 6in off when I said 3 (the other 3 inches were free of split ends, perfectly healthy!)...
things like that happen a lot for me

So I decided to find a few links on how to cut ones own hair and make a thread here because I was unable to find a trimming your own hair thread. I just used the search buttons, forum and general one.

Feel free to post how you do it if you trim your own hair

I've been pulling all my hair to the front , like a backwards ponytail, with the tail the center of my forehead at the 'widow's peak' area

carefully combing to make sure all the hair is evenly brought into the ponytail

I then comb the tail as evenly as possible, align the hair

Then I bring my hair betwixt my fingers and trim the whole tail straight across

(My hair is thin so I can get the whole ponytail between two fingers.)

This gives a layered-ends V shape which works for my thin hair.

I do think i'll try the feye's V-trim, though.

Hey - I did Feye's a couple of weeks ago and was really happy with the results, esp. since I have a morbid fear of hairdressers! Here's a link to a thread with LHC members discussing self-trimming: http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=34991&highlight=feye%27s

Feye's self trim method is widely used here, it works really well.

I use Feye's self trim for U shape, and it works beautifully!

Thinking about doing that myself, just need to get some hair cutting scissors.
