I did some new length shots today. The first since my hair was above knee length. My ends are a bit hard to see because they are currently died light pink starting around ankle/floor length.

WOWWWW! Your hair is soooooo stunning! And, the pink ends are cool too! I'm trying to grow my hair to my ankles. Or, I'm trying to grow my hair to see where my terminal length is. Then, I'll maintain it at my ankles. Have you ever had hair this long in your life before?

Daaaaaaaang~ did you do the ends before or after you passed floor?

After. I had made an agreement (that clearly hasn't been kept) that I wouldn't let my hair get long enough it would be stepped on and I'd keep it at ankle. Once my hair was beyond floor length, I agreed that I'd cut it after dying the ends. Then it took me quite a while to get around to dying the ends and finish the process. My first round of bleach the top of the bleach was at the top of my ankles and my ends were beyond the floor, by the second round of bleach it was close to floor by the time it turned pink the top was pretty much floor. And now I'm attached to the pink and want to keep it. Or turn it purple.

HaMalka, how do you normally wear your hair? Do you have a photo of your usual style?

I usually wear it in a braided LWB secured with a single stick. Sometimes I wear it in a braided cinnamon bun held with amish pins or an unbraided LWB if its wet. I don't currently have any pictures, probably because its my everyday hair.

Thank you. I do have some taper. Its more apparent when in a braid. My braid starts at about wrist thickness and by the end is pinky finger thin. The weight tends to pull it flat up top and the waves make it fluffier lower down so maybe it evens out the taper somewhat when loose?

I just had to share this video. It called Nature. Her hair is just so beautiful.:D Here is the link. Her Profile name is longhairyo.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgaajLC4CWk

She was going to cut her hair when a long hair lover encouraged her to keep it long and she opened up a website!(site now closed) This was long ago...maybe 2008? I actually emailed her a couple times and we exchanged links.
(we put each others links on our hair sites) I was so honored! She was an inspiration for sure.
I think her dog was in poor health and she stopped posting. The last email from her told about her dog, she was very upset. I have not heard from her since then.I loved her hair so much. My favorite was when her hair went over the chair. video (https://youtu.be/LLJ6Gs6rfxA). AMAZING! She has a youtube channel HERE (https://www.youtube.com/user/longhairyo). Nothing new for a long time, but her videos are timeless.I hope she is well.

The Original Plan was that I'd bleach and dye my ends with no care to their health because I was going to cut back to ankle and maintain there. That has not happened. I'm probably going to keep dying my ends until I get bored or they get so damaged I can't deal with them and then cut off the bleached bits. (That isn't ankle anymore. My hair would still be somewhere past floor.)

However, given my (in)ability to stick to plans regarding hair length (I keep on thinking I'll let it get to x length and no further) and my longterm goal of a pixie cut (which is probably not happening), I have no real clue.

I'd like to be back at mid-calf at least. At my last trim in June 2020 I told my partner to take it back to like high calf and he was like "eh, I'll just cut 5", that'll be enough to keep it from annoying you" but here we are again with it annoying me less than a year later!

Honestly when it was floor+ length for so many years I kind of forgot that hair grows? Like it it was always just long and not gaining a lot of length because the ends were super fragile anyway, and now that I can actually see growth again (since June 2019's big cut) it's wild!

Gossamer, just incredible!! :bowtome:

You mentioned your braid begin about the size of your wrist that is magnificently glorious.

Is this because only someone with amazing genetics could grow hair this long? Is their a correlation between a long terminal length + thick hair? Because normally, I can't think of why/how having your hair longer would make it thicker.

I am so willing to let my hair grow to terminal length eventually, but if that means longer than my ankles, then I can imagine maintaining at fingertip. When I grew to fingertip before, it was still quite easy to manage (I just cut it because I wanted to know what it felt like to have lovely blunt cut ends that frame my face and flap around....) but this time the curiosity is dealt with and I am ready for sure!

lapis_lazuli
November 11th, 2022, 12:40 PM
It isn't really too time-consuming, especially if you follow a benign neglect routine. For me, detangling takes 5-10 minutes and is only done every few days. Full washes are the most laborious, but I stretch those for a long time and only wash my scalp regularly. And buns, which I wear day and night, take only a few seconds to do. As for weight, if you wear the right updos that distribute the tension correctly, I don't think it becomes much of an issue. I weighed my hair earlier this year and it was only 325 g (0.7 lbs).

Not the best quality because one of my lights burned out. Hope to get some outdoor shots with better lighting soon.

Incredible!

I did some new length shots today. The first since my hair was above knee length. My ends are a bit hard to see because they are currently died light pink starting around ankle/floor length.

I've been veeeeery quiet here, the last couple years have been very busy and hard. I settled into benign neglect with my hair... and recently discovered my hair now drags the floor! Thank you all for your tips and inspiration. I am not sure if I will stay this length or not. On one hand, it's getting rather hard to braid, which I miss. I am curious how much farther it'll grow though...

Welcome back, RadioactiveLily :waving: Congrats on reaching floor!! I saw your picture come up in the activity stream and it looks lovely! (maybe it didn't attach properly here?)

I also find even English braiding a chore at this length, but I'll still do it occasionally. French or Dutch braiding however, I haven't attempted in a year or two. I'm content with wearing the same bun every day though, so I don't mind.
I feel sometimes I should venture to find my terminal while I'm here since I won't be forever, but I ultimately like this length and don't want to complicate my routine any further.

I haven't French braided my hair in a couple years either. I tried this week and the ends tangled and stuck together like velcro. It cost me 20 minutes more with the brush after I quit trying. Does yours do the same?

Pic worked now - very pretty!

Oh yes, definitely. I've seen it called "back-braiding", when the ends braid themselves together as you're moving the sections around. The only way to avoid it is separating the sections after each pass. What worked for me before was, after adding the hair and moving it to the other side, pulling only the section I had just gone over/under up and away from the rest of the ends to untangle it. Dutch was always way easier because this section would lay on top. But if this method failed and I hit a snag, with the ends so far beyond fingertip, there was no salvaging it. My hair is more knot-prone these days, so I haven't felt inclined to try anymore.

Wow...amazing RadioactiveLily and Lapis_Lazuli! You've done what very few people are capable of doing (hmmm...how many people in the world have floor-length hair...I'd imagine probably less than 50,000 and maybe substantially less than even that?).

I'm so jealous it makes me want to aim for floor again even though it's pretty much impossible now

Backbraiding- there IS a word for it! Yes, that's exactly what happens. I try to separate the sections by pulling and jiggling them upward, but with smaller sections of a French braid it's just hopeless. I can manage an English braid but it's careful work until I get it going a ways.

Hi, and welcome to the forum! :)
I also love the look and feel of floorlength hair too! I am also aiming for floor length hair without any trims. I basically never grew up trimming my hair. I've only believed and grew up only dusting the tips of my ends a little, and that's it every now and then. Or, whenever I felt there was a need for it.
